The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Firefighter Recruit to support our government customer located in Kekaha, Hawai'i.
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a firefighter recruit, attend a twenty-two (22) week Fire Training Academy (FTA) which includes classroom instruction and hands-on practical application training in a structured, paramilitary environment. Must conduct oneself in a disciplined, professional manner and comply with dress, appearance, conduct, and behavior standards as outlined in the Federal Fire Department, Firefighter Recruit Manual. Complete course curriculum leading to professional certification in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1003, and Standard for Airport Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, NFPA 472 Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials, and National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
+ High School or equivalent
+ Twenty-one (21) Years or older
+ Must have a current Hawaii Driver’s License
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
+ Successful completion of all core competencies, written and performance, to attain professional certification as a Firefighter I and Firefighter II.
+ Successful completion of all core competencies, written and performance, to attain professional certification as an Airport Firefighter.
+ Successful completion of all core competencies, written and performance, to attain professional certification as HazMat-Operations level first responder.
+ Successful completion of all core competencies, written and performance, to attain professional licensure through the NREMT as EMT.
+ In addition to the above, performs other tasks as directed by the FTA cadre.
+ Ability to listen well and follow instructions.
+ Ability to function effectively as part of a team.
+ Must pass an annual occupational physical IAW NFPA 1582, Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments, Chapter 6.
+ Must pass a pre-employment Performance Fitness Evaluation.
+ Must be able to type no less than 20 words-per-minute (WPM)
+ Must possess competent computer skills. Including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
+ Recruits are responsible for your own travel, housing and meals.
Environment:
+ Ability to work within high-heat, restricted visibility, elevated, subsurface, and/or under hazardous conditions.
+ Ability to function effectively while under duress.
Physical:
+ Ability to drag, carry, and/or lift heavy objects.
+ Ability to function effectively while wearing self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with face mask.
+ Ability to function effectively while wearing various types of personal protective clothing and equipment (PPE) and PPE elements.
REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:
+ Must be a U.S. Citizen
+ Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
