The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF)—a public liberal arts institution recognized for its close-knit community and student-centered mission—is seeking a visionary Director of Student Life to lead and enhance the student experience.

     

    As a key member of the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management leadership team, you will shape a vibrant campus life that fosters belonging, engagement, and growth. This role is pivotal in supporting the holistic development of UMF students and strengthening the institution’s commitment to inclusion, innovation, and excellence.

     

    A typical salary is up to $65,000

     

    The start date for this position will be January 5, 2026, or July 1, 2026

     

    What You’ll Do

     

    + Provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of Residential Life, including housing, staff development, budgets, and crisis management.

    + Oversee student organizations, campus programming, and student governance, ensuring every student has the opportunity to lead, connect, and contribute.

    + Serve as UMF’s Chief Conduct Officer, promoting accountability, equity, and fairness in student conduct processes.

    + Act as UMF’s Homeless Student Liaison, coordinating resources and partnerships to support students facing housing insecurity.

    + Manage the UMF Shuttle Service and serve as a critical member of the campus on-call rotation to respond to student needs.

    + Collaborate across departments to create an inclusive, engaged, and supportive campus environment that drives student success and retention.

     

    Who You Are

     

    + A student-centered leader who champions collaboration, inclusion, and student empowerment.

    + A strategic thinker who can translate vision into actionable results.

    + Experienced in crisis response, conduct management, and community building on a college campus.

    + Skilled in mentoring and supervising staff, managing budgets, and navigating complex situations with integrity and empathy.

    + Committed to continuous improvement and innovation in the student experience.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Student Affairs, or a closely related field.

    + 5–7 years of progressive experience in residential life and student affairs.

    + Demonstrated success in supervision, crisis management, and student conduct administration.

    + Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

    + Valid driver’s license (based on UMS standards)

     

    Preferred: Experience in risk management, budgeting, assessment, and case/housing management software.
