CORE JOB SUMMARYThe Immigration Specialist assists with the University’s immigration programs and provides guidance and support related to immigration procedures to foreign students and faculty. This role ensures all required documentation is complete, accurate, timely, and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and University policies and procedures.CORE JOB FUNCTIONS1. Provides day-to-day support to the Immigration Services Manager (ISM) related to immigration matters to include all campuses for all non-faculty.2. Assists ISM in streamlining immigration processes and provides support to Talent Acquisition and Retention (TAR) team to ensure timely and efficient on-boarding and processing of all new hires on both immigrant and non-immigrant visa statuses.3. Provides departments with guidance and information regarding policy and procedural updates, particularly those that pertain to immigration issues/process.4. Assists with immigration matters for faculty and staff to include but not limited to proper completion of electronic I-9 forms, E-Verify program, monitoring and tracking of employment authorization expirations as well as notices to employees and department supervisors.5. Processes visa sponsorship requests to include H1B, O1, TN, and PERM sponsorships.6. Works closely with recruitment team to ensure identified candidates for a visa sponsorship meet the University of Miami’s educational/minimum requirements for a position before the visa process is initiated; ensures timely posting of position(s) and necessary advertising.7. Attends in-house and external seminars pertaining to I-9/ Visa issues. Conducts periodic I-9’s audits to ensure compliance.8. Updates visa logs, system information and electronic Form I-9/ Visa extensions or citizen status changes for exempt and non-exempt employees. Verifies Visa report generated in the applicable system to determine expiration dates.9. Completes reference letters related to Immigration matters.10. Schedules annual in-house training with outside counsel and ISSS.11. Reviews and resolves employee concerns on routine issues related to immigration matters.12. Trains other departments to include other Human Resources areas (i.e. HRSS, HRCS etc.) on Immigration issues on a regular basis.13. Develops and maintains website for Immigration Services FAQ’s and information.14. Initiates visas questionnaires for several departments.15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.CORE QUALIFICATIONSEducation:High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or licenseExperience:Minimum 1 year of relevant experience requiredCertification and Licensing:Refer to department description for applicable certification requirementsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
