Position Overview
The Data Analyst 3 plays a key role in advancing the University’s data-driven decision-making. Partnering closely with stakeholders across Development and Alumni Relations, this role ensures that complex data is translated into clear, actionable information that supports fundraising, alumni engagement, and strategic initiatives. The analyst will design, develop, and maintain list-based extracts, reports, and self-service dashboards that provide staff and leadership with timely, accurate insights. While serving as a technical expert, the analyst is also a collaborative business partner, helping colleagues make informed decisions and fostering a culture of evidence-based practice within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
+ List Management & Extracts
+ Develop mailing lists, segmentation queries, and event participant extracts to support fundraising and alumni engagement.
+ Ensure accuracy and consistency of extracted data by validating against business rules and data governance standards.
+ SQL Development
+ Write and maintain intermediate SQL queries for data pulls, recurring reports, and ad hoc requests.
+ Partner with the Data Architect to improve efficiency of queries and reuse of common logic.
+ Business Intelligence & Self-Service Reporting
+ Build and maintain dashboards and self-service reports in enterprise BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SSRS).
+ Work with stakeholders to define report requirements, KPIs, and visualizations.
+ Document and train end-users on how to access and interpret reports.
+ Collaboration & Support
+ Serve as a key partner to development officers, marketing and communications staff, and leadership in translating business needs into technical specifications.
+ Provide guidance and informal training to colleagues on using data tools effectively.
+ Act as a subject matter expert on reporting best practices, data definitions, and system capabilities.
+ Quality & Process Improvement
+ Apply data governance standards to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency.
+ Proactively recommend process improvements for reporting, list management, and analytics workflows.
+ Technical Documentation & Standards
+ Create and maintain clear technical documentation for queries, reports, and processes to support consistency and knowledge transfer.
+ Contribute to the development of shared SQL templates, naming conventions, and reporting standards.
+ Ensure documentation is accessible and up to date for both technical staff and business users.
Qualifications
+ Education: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
+ Experience:
+ Minimum 5 years of professional experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or report development.
+ Higher education or non-profit fundraising experience preferred.
+ Experience working with medical data highly preferred.
+ Technical Skills:
+ Proficiency in SQL with ability to write and optimize queries.
+ Experience with BI/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar).
+ Strong Excel skills for analysis and reporting.
+ Familiarity with relational databases and data warehousing concepts.
+ Experience with Kanban ticketing system preferred.
+ Soft Skills:
+ Ability to manage multiple requests and prioritize effectively.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
+ Clear communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues.
+ Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
