Job Description
We are seeking dedicated construction laborers and carpenters to contribute to our projects at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Schools, specifically on the Level 7 & 8 NICU. This role involves a variety of tasks including general demo duties, site cleaning, assisting carpenters, and material handling. The position offers the opportunity to be trained as a carpenter on the job.
Responsibilities
+ Perform general demo duties and maintain a clean job site.
+ Assist carpenters by cutting wood and handling materials.
+ Engage in material handling and transport tools through the University.
+ Install door frames and hang wall protection.
+ Frame, drywall, and install doors, windows, kitchen, and bath hardware.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in carpentry and construction.
+ Ability to lift 50 lbs.
+ Proficient in reading a tape measure.
+ Familiarity with hand tools and steel framing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 6+ months of construction labor experience.
+ Knowledge of demolition, roofing, and concrete work.
+ Experience with landscaping and using tape measures.

Work Environment
Our teams work on small commercial projects, typically at UIHC or on the Iowa Campus, with all buildings being unoccupied during the work. Expect to work in teams of 3-5 people, wearing boots, jeans, and a T-shirt. Standard hours are Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with potential for night and weekend work. Workweeks may extend up to 50 hours.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
