The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 3- Montgomery County are currently recruiting for a Facility Maintenance Technician III position. This position is open to current permanent employees within District 3 only who meet the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitments conducted for this job classification.
Nature of Work: This is the journey or specialized (Level III) levels of maintenance and construction work on facilities such as bridges, buildings, bulkheads, highways, parking areas, piers, railroads, ramps, roads, taxiways, tunnels, or adjacent areas of the Maryland Department of Transportation. Employees utilize the tools, operate the motorized equipment, and perform the manual tasks essential to the upkeep and appearance of a facility, structures, roadways, highways, interstates. Employees work independently or as members of a crew. At the journey level, employees may work within a specialized trade. Employees do not supervise, but may provide guidance, instruction, and assistance to other employees.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance or skilled trades work, including the operation of heavy motorized equipment.

Licenses & Certifications
Candidates must possess a CDL A or B license at the time of submission of their application.
Candidates and promotional employees hired into the Facility Maintenance Technician I, II and III levels must satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements during the probationary period.
Employees in the Facility Maintenance Technician I, II and III classifications must satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements to be eligible for advancement to higher levels.

Special Requirements:
Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to emergency call back, 24 hours a day, with a response time of less than one hour, as may be required to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility.
Employees may be required to work rotating shifts to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Employees in this classification are considered "essential employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "essential employee" status. Also, employees may be exposed to hazardous materials and are subject to substance abuse testing.
