Product Design Engineer

SUMMARY OF POSITION
CAD design of ASME Code pressure equipment such as agitated reactors, blenders, evaporators, heat exchangers, receivers and related accessories. This position is 100% in-office in our Rochester, NY facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties include those listed below. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
This position will be responsible for the design and drafting of original equipment and aftermarket projects. In conjunction with a Product Engineer, work from a detailed order specification to convert customer requirements into detailed engineering specifications including drawings and engineering bill of materials in an ERP system. The key duty is the design and drafting of engineered-to-order projects involving highly corrosion resistant pressure equipment in a variety of specialty alloy materials and composite materials. Project scope extends from high level setting plans to detail manufacturing specifications. The design activities include of the following:
+ Utilize 2D AutoCAD for maintenance of legacy product families.
+ Generate 3D models with SolidWorks within Pfaudler standard practice.
+ Create 2D drawings of component level parts and sub-assemblies generated from 3D solid models.
+ Generate engineering bills of materials and product structures within an ERP system.
+ Utilize a Product Data Management System for control of engineering data including associated workflows.
+ Application of shop fabrication methods such as rolling, welding and machining operations in design creation.
+ Proper weld symbol creation and specification in accordance with AWS standards.
+ Interact with fabrication departments before and during manufacturing phase of projects.
+ Review for use of pre-engineered product to minimize excessive design.
+ Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
+ Mechanical design for the interaction of parts
+ Understand drawing formats, numbering systems, submittals, and revisions.
+ Completion of Engineering Change Notices with understanding of impact on business.
QUALIFICATIONS
Should be proficient in 3D modeling and drawing creation using SolidWorks. Two (2) years minimum experience in 3D modeling required.
Any exposure to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes is a plus.
Familiarity with instrumentation typically used in the chemical process industry is a plus.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret 2D drawings.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years related experience and an A.A.S. degree in a technical field. One (1) to (3) years related experience and a B.S. or B.T. in Mechanical Engineering.
