    Job Description

    The Word Processor II uses knowledge of varied and advanced functions of one software type, knowledge of varied functions of different types of software, or knowledge of specialized or technical terminology to perform such typical duties as: a. Editing and reformatting written or electronic drafts. Examples include correcting function codes; adjusting spacing formatting and standardizing headings, margins, and indentations. b. Transcribing scientific reports, lab analysis, legal proceedings, or similar material from voice tapes or handwritten drafts. Work requires knowledge of specialized, technical, or scientific terminology. Work requires familiarity with office terminology and practices. Incumbent corrects copy, and questions originator of document concerning missing information, improper formatting, or discrepancies in instructions. Supervisor sets priorities and deadlines on continuing assignments, furnishes general instructions for recurring work and provides specific instructions for new or unique projects, may lead lower-level word processors. This position uses automated systems, such as word processing equipment, personal computers, or workstations linked to a larger computer or local area network, to produce a variety of documents, such as correspondence, memos, publications, forms, reports, tables and graphs. Work requires familiarity with office terminology and practices. Supervisor sets priorities and deadlines on continuing assignments, furnishes general instructions for recurring work and provides specific instructions for new or unique projects. Duties and Responsibilities * Uses one or more word processing software packages * Performs routine clerical tasks, such as filing and coding documents, routing phone calls and distributing mail to individuals in accordance with established procedures of the organization, data entry, and preparation of reports, simple charts, graphs, tables or other materials * Corrects copy, and questions originator of document concerning missing information, improper formatting, or discrepancies in instructions* May lead lower-level word processors* Maintains test project master files, and other records * Works independently under strict guidelines, choosing the proper procedure for each task * Deals with personnel via telephone and in person * Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Required Skills and Qualifications* Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint * Must type at least 40 words per minute * Must comprehend and use complex, multi-page filing systems * Must have experience editing and compiling technical reports/documents * Must have at least 2 years’ experience with the use of office equipment (copier, fax and computer) * Must demonstrate ability to accomplish tasks independently and maintain a strong customer service attitude at all times * Must be adaptable and able to remain calm under stressful conditions Desired Qualifications* Knowledge of government office procedures and prior work experience in government testing office environment Physical Demands and Working Conditions* The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment * Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time * Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time * Must be able to lift 25 pounds unassisted * Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the duties and responsibilitiesTerms of Employment and Eligibility Requirements* Must be a U.S. Citizen* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening * Must be able to successfully complete a background check* Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employmentThe lists above are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel in this position.
