    KTA has a full-time need for a Technical Associate/Steel Consultant to provide advanced technical support to the Structural Materials and Pavement Marking Division in the materials evaluation, inspection, testing, and manufacturing/application processes. This role requires in-depth knowledge of the materials and processes involved, along with a strong background in quality control and quality assurance practices related to their inspection.

     

    The incumbent will work out of the Maryland State Highway Administration materials facility in Hanover, MD, however, travel to job sites and/or facilities within and outside of Maryland is also required.

    Education and Experience:

    + AWS CWI or AWS training

    + Coating chemistry and the application of those coatings to various substrates

    + Formal education in materials science or materials properties

    + Knowledge of metals properties and the fabrication of metal structures

    + Knowledge of traffic marking materials and their application

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    + Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

    + Good computer skills including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)

    + B.S. Degree, Engineering Discipline – preferred

    + AMPP Certified (CIP 2) or AMPP Senior Certified (CIP 3) – preferred

    + MARTCP Certification (Pavement Marking) – preferred

    Physical Requirements:

    + Close, color, distance, depth vision and ability to adjust focus

    + Ability to travel extensively and ability to work outside on occasion (including inclement weather)

    + Climbing, bending, crawling, and working in confined spaces and on uneven terrain

    + Ability to lift 25+ lbs.

     

    Drug testing and criminal background and motor vehicle check will be conducted.

     

    Salary Range: $40-50/hour with comprehensive benefits package. Hourly rate is based on experience and certifications.
