    Job Description

    To supervise and assist with coordination of the day to day activities on the treatment units ensuring efficient, effective operations and quality service within the department.

    Qualifications

    Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSBI

    Education:

    + Graduate of an approved, 2 year, hospital-based certificate program, two-year associate degree program, or 4 year baccalaureate degree program in Radiation Therapy.

    + ARRT registered within the field of Radiation Therapy

    + Four years of post-certification experience

    + Proficient in all aspects of simulation techniques

    + Promotions are based on demonstrated competencies

    Responsibilities

    1. Accurately sets up patients and administers radiation treatments. Maintains accurate daily records of treatment administered. Ensures correctness of all MOSAIQ entries. Reviews plans and complete all necessary senior checks/verification prior to tre

    2. Performs treatment dose calculations using Radcal when necessary supplied by the physics department; ensures that the calculations are checked by the Medical Physics Department by the 3rd day of treatment.

    3. Assist with the supervision and guidance of Staff Therapist in the department. Responds to employees questions and provide guidance on how to proceed.

    4. Evaluates and authorize in conjunction with the Technical Supervisor or Chief Therapist, changes in staff schedules, prioritizes to ensure that workflow is controlled and meets the needs of the patients.

    5. Performs safety checks on treatment machine and simulator and records data daily. Detects equipment malfunction and knows when safe limits of malfunction have been reached. Understands the rules and regulations for radiation safety. Detects any defe

    6. Verifies/localize treatment area with KV/MV/CBCT images. Interprets and evaluates images to determine accuracy submits to Radiation Oncologist for approval and follows through having films checked and approved.

    7. Assists in the coordinating of all elements of new patient's treatments. Obtains necessary equipment, information/documentation. Complete all necessary assessments. Ensures patient consent is available. This function is performed for emergency pati

    8. Observes the clinical process of the patient undergoing radiation therapy recognizes early signs of any complications and reports findings to the Radiation Oncologist.

    9. Explains treatment procedures to the patients and answers questions/reassures patients. Maintains visible and audible communication with patient during treatment.

    10. Understands the use of compensating filters and wedges and all accessory equipment and knows the results of their misuse and omission during the course of treatment.

    11. Participates in orientation and in-service programs and instructs new employees in departmental protocols, procedures and radiation therapy techniques.

    12. Able to schedule patient’s treatment appointments when necessary. Ensures that the daily treatment machine schedule is accurate and maximizes the therapist time.

    13. Responsible for instructing Radiation Therapy students and evaluating students at the end of their rotations.

    14. Attends Chart Rounds, ensures all new patients’ charts are presented at chart round, displays images and participates in discussion of patient’s treatment.

    15. Completed simulator rotation. Proficient in all aspects of simulation techniques.

    16. Ensures weekly chart checks are completed.

    17. Attends Meeting in the absence of the Technical Supervisor. Communicates and share information with staff level therapist.

    Compensation Statement

    Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $71.2192 - $71.7525 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
