Job Summary
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder welcomes applications for a Temporary Researcher. This position will handle data management within Professor Max Boykoff's research group at CIRES. This is a strategic leadership role which will oversee and improve the data management functions within Media and Climate Change Observatory (MeCCO)/Inside the Greenhouse (ITG). The selected finalist will work on data handling and usage in executing data-related projects that align with our goals.
The finalist will also be developing a student application process for new MeCCO team members, helping situate us well for a current PhD student to continue in an ENVS-funded Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) role beginning Spring 2026 semester, and exploring other research and partner opportunities.

Who We Are
At CIRES (https://cires.colorado.edu/) , more than 900 people work to understand the dynamic Earth system, including people's relationship with the planet. An institute at the University of Colorado Boulder, we have partnered with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) since 1967. Our areas of expertise include weather and climate, wildfire and water, changes at Earth's poles, air quality and atmospheric chemistry, water resources, solid Earth sciences, and more. Our researchers work in 10 CU Boulder departments and eight NOAA laboratories and centers.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
+ Perform data management responsibilities, improving our data gathering, archiving and sharing (50%).
+ Contribute to increasing student involvement by putting together a plan to put out an application for CU students to participate in monthly volunteer experience (20%).
+ Assist with special projects addressing data gathering challenges, exploring potential research collaborations (20%).
+ Prepare for Spring 2026 GRA plans, which will be funded by the Department of Environmental Studies (10%).
What You Should Know
+ This appointment is not eligible for vacation leave, holidays, annual merit pay increases, nor employee health, retirement, or related benefits, except those required by law.
+ This appointment will accrue 0.034 hours of sick leave for every hour worked.
+ The hours for this position may vary and are not guaranteed.
+ This temporary position is expected to last through December 2025, and cannot extend past a maximum of 12 months in total.
What We Can Offer
+ The hourly rate for this position is $25/hr.

What We Require
+ PhD.
+ 5 years of experience working on Media and Climate Change Observatory.
What You Will Need
+ Strong data literacy.
+ Strong knowledge of climate change.
+ Ability to carry out tasks independently.
+ Expertise in quantitative analysis.
