Senior Revenue Accountant-(Revenue Cycle) Patient Financial Services- Corporate 42nd Street-Full-Time Days (Hybrid)
The Senior Revenue Accountant for the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) (which includes the MSHS and the Faculty Practice Plan) is responsible for the integrity and accuracy of revenue recognition and A/R -related financial reporting and will partner closely with operations, billing, and financial planning and analysis to ensure GAAP compliant revenue processes and timely identification of risks and opportunities in revenue trends. This position will report to the Senior Director of Revenue.
This role will ensure the accurate recording, recognition, and reporting of hospital revenue, which includes focusing on the healthcare revenue cycle, patient billing, and maintaining compliance with U.S. GAAP and ASC 606 standards. Key responsibilities include preparing financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, collaborating with billing and operations teams to identify revenue risks and opportunities, assisting with audits, and supporting month-end close processes.
Qualifications
Education
+ Bachelor?s degree in accounting or finance. Masters degree preferred.
Experience
+ 3+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience. Experience with ASC 606 Revenue Recognition. CPA and recent Big Four experience. Advanced MS Excel skills and experience
+ Prior experience with revenue cycle, financial reporting, revenue recognition, analytics, and inferential statistics.
+ Diverse experience of healthcare databases and data sources, preferably in a large academic healthcare setting.
+ Possess prior Big 4 audit background and/or experience in high-growth environments.
+ Build, maintain, and refine complex financial models to produce and present accurate, data-driven reports which analyze financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
+ Solid knowledge of business, financial, strategic concepts and emerging trends.
+ Demonstrated ability to engage in positive, powerful persuasion with individuals or groups with diverse opinions and/ or agendas, leading to outcomes that meet identified goals.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational abilities. Accuracy, attentiveness to detail and time management skills are required.
+ Ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians and other clinical professionals internally and externally.
+ The ability to maintain a high level of positive energy/ creativity during periods of elevated work demands.
+ Ability to prioritize multiple objectives in a rapidly changing environment and deliver quality outcomes.
+ Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships at all levels throughout the organization.

Responsibilities
+ Manage end-to-end revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP, including ASC 606 compliance, including reviewing hospital contracts to ensure they comply with revenue recognition policies and provide guidance on the proper accounting treatment.
+ Develop and maintain reports on revenue trends, highlight risks, and provide meaningful financial reporting to leadership and cross-functional teams.
+ Coordinate, compile and analyze monthly financial data utilizing spreadsheet and database applications.
+ Contribute to the design, implementation, and documentation of scalable revenue processes, processes, and controls.
+ Analyze large data sets to validate underlying system configurations and financial reporting outputs.
+ Support annual audit requests and provide documentation for revenue-related testing.
+ Identify and implement process improvements, leveraging technology and automation to drive efficiency in revenue accounting operations.
+ Lead revenue-related projects, coordinating cross-functional partners, tracking progress and delivering measurable business impact.
+ Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights and develop, maintain and compile reporting tools that clearly communicate findings to diverse stakeholders.
+ Assist revenue cycle leaders in working closely with organizational stakeholders to improve financial performance based on analytical findings.
+ Support investigation into claims patterns, payor mix evaluation, and other strategic analytics to optimize payor performance.
+ Develop analytical models that are well-documented containing advanced formulas and functions that are used to evaluate historical trends, forecast future expectations, or draw conclusions.
+ Point person for revenue close including gross revenue and patient stat analysis and accounts receivable valuation calculations.
+ Conduct complex analyses adhering to best practice standards by selecting appropriate data sources, developing assumptions, recognizing considerations, and establishing recommendations.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements and ensure data accuracy and integrity.
+ Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency through data analysis.
+ Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in data analysis.
+ Resolve unreasonable results, suboptimal solutions, and data anomalies based on experience and professional judgment.
+ Build effective, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across departments.
+ Resourceful in creating or fine-tuning the processes necessary to complete the work along with the ability to organize people and activities.
+ Challenge existing norms or courses of action to facilitate fully informed decision-making. Help institute balanced decision-making by identifying risks and opportunities.
+ Establish and maintain strong working relationships with revenue cycle leaders, key stakeholders, and foster a strong working relationship with key strategic partners.
+ Create feedback loops and enhancement pipelines informed by stakeholders and data.
+ Ensure compliance with all HIPAA privacy and security standards.
+ Conform to the established policies/ procedures/ processes/ Standards of Behavior.
+ Performs other duties as required by the Senior Director of Revenue.

Compensation Statement
Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $130000 - $160000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
