    Job Description

    A Network Engineer's job description with a focus on Cisco and Aruba typically involves designing, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure, including routing, switching, and wireless components, utilizing the respective vendor's hardware and software platforms.     Key Responsibilities for a Cisco/Aruba Network Engineer

    • Design & Implementation:

     

    Architect and implement network solutions using Cisco and Aruba hardware, such as routers, switches, and wireless access points.

     

    • Configuration & Optimization:

     

    Configure and manage network devices, including optimizing network performance and ensuring efficient connectivity.

     

    • Troubleshooting:

     

    Identify and resolve network issues, such as connectivity problems, routing issues, and performance degradation, across both wired and wireless networks.

     

    • Security:

     

    Implement and manage network security measures, potentially including firewalls and VPNs, to protect against threats and vulnerabilities.

     

    • Monitoring & Performance:

     

    Monitor network traffic and performance using tools like Aruba Central or Solar Winds SEM to ensure network health and minimize downtime.

     

    • Maintenance & Upgrades:

     

    Perform routine maintenance, software updates, and hardware upgrades to keep the network infrastructure current and functional.

     

    • Documentation:

     

    Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and documentation for changes and ongoing processes.

     

    • Collaboration:

     

    Work with cross-functional teams, vendors, and internal resources to address complex issues and implement new solutions.

    Cisco Specifics

    • Hardware: Experience with Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls (e.g., Cisco ASA) is required.

    • Software: Familiarity with Cisco IOS and network devices is a must.

    • Protocols: Deep understanding of routing protocols like OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP is crucial for enterprise-level Cisco networks.

     

    Aruba Specifics

     

    •

    Hardware:

    Familiarity with Aruba wireless gateways, access points, switches, and Aruba Instant Access Points is essential.

     

    •

    Software:

    Experience with ArubaOS and cloud-based management tools like Aruba Central is expected.

     

    •

    Wireless Focus:

    Many Aruba roles emphasize expertise in designing and troubleshooting wireless LANs (WLANs) and network access control (NAC) with tools like ClearPass.

    Basic Job Requirements

    • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and five (5) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to nine (9) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements

    • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors

    • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job

    • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines

    • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

     

    Other Job Requirements

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Accredited degree or global equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, or related technical discipline

    • May require Certified Network Engineer (CNE or CNE/NT) or Certified Network Administrator (CNA) credentials or other applicable certifications

    • Five (5) years related experience in technical services for hardware/software engineering and/or production support of Information Technology (IT) services

    • Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs

    • Demonstrated strong technical and non-technical communication skills, both oral and written

    • Strong team-oriented interpersonal skills

    Market Rate Statement: The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
