    GENERAL SUMMARY

    This position involves skilled professional and technical work involving patient contact and the performance of various neurophysiological tests. Work is

     

    performed under general supervision in accordance with established procedures. Performance requires good judgment and action in specific situations.

     

    Performs test on neonate, pediatric and adult patients.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    1. Registered EEG Technician preferred.

    2. One to two years of experience working as an EEG Technician or in the health care field preferred.

    3. Must be able to properly apply electrodes, and manipulate and troubleshoot equipment.

    4. Ability to elicit full patient cooperation in performance of tests and observing and handling people who may be apprehensive.

    5. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and learn new equipment and procedures.

    6. Ability to relate to co-workers, nurses, physicians, and others in a professional and courteous manner.

    7. Ability to maintain professional confidences and earn the patient’s trust.

    8. Ability to learn and follow good infection control practices and have a thorough knowledge of universal precautions.

    9. BLS trained according to AHA guidelines.

    10. Ability to push equipment outside of the lab, and the ability to learn and perform the proper technique of transporting, lifting, and moving

     

    patients.

     

    11. Must be able to type 35-40 words per minute, and properly perform other clerical function.

     

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    Performs tests in the EEG Laboratory and portable procedures outside of the

    lab. These include, but not limited to: Electroencephalogram (EEG),

    Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials (BAEP), and Visual Evoked Potentials

    (VEP). Long term monitoring for epilepsy (LTME), and Ambulatory Cassette

     

    Recording (ACR).

     

    2. Inspects and tests the above equipment to insure proper operating conditions;

     

    makes minor adjustments and repairs. Assists with general maintenance.

     

    3. Measures and applies electrodes in accordance with the “International 10-20

     

    Electrode Placement System”.

     

    4. Applies special electrodes such as nasopharyngeal, EKG, and nasal and chest

     

    respiration’s, as necessary.

     

    5. Arranges special montages of paired electrodes when there is some suspicion

     

    of focal or isolated activity on the EEG record.

     

    6. Schedules all patient testing.

    7. Is involved in training and orientation necessary for new employees as directed.

    8. Compiles data and generates reports used to measure various aspects of care

     

    for the Quality Assessment/Improvement Program of the department.

     

    9. Completes month/year end reports and other related reports when necessary.

    10. Keeps the Medical Director and Manager informed of the day-to-day activity

     

    of the department.

     

    11. Orders supplies and reviews any special equipment needed for the department.

    12. Is subject to “call in” and “on call” during non-working hours.

    13. Types and prepares report forms, patient folders, and other general office

     

    duties.

     

    14. Inputs charges in the computer for services rendered to patients. Generates

     

    proper face sheets and billing information.

     

    15. Confers with patients, explaining test procedures, to allay fears and anxieties

     

    associated with equipment and procedures in order to elicit patient cooperation

     

    during testing.

     

    16. Observes the patient and reports and documents any unusual behavior, such as

     

    seizures and any other problems. Follows proper procedures in case of

     

    emergencies.

     

    17. Transports patients to and from the lab, lifts and moves patients and assists

     

    patients from wheelchair to testing chairs.

     

    18. Prioritizes and completes tasks within specified time frames.

    19. Attends meetings and seminars to stay informed in the field.

    20. Participates in the evaluation of new equipment/procedures. Meets with sales

     

    personnel as necessary.

     

    21. Practices universal precautions, which are appropriate for each given situation.

    22. Performs studies as appropriate on neonate, pediatric, and adult patients.

    22. Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program,

     

    including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and

     

    reporting to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical,

     

    fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
