Perioperative Attendant** ** ** **– Mary Immaculate Hospital
Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Perioperative Attendant is responsible for assisting the clinical staff by performing a variety of support functions that facilitate the delivery of surgical/procedural services to the patient working under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated health care professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.
Licensing/Certification
BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
Education
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Work Experience
One-year perioperative experience preferred
Essential Job Functions
+ __ Performs daily set-up of the surgical suites and room turnover between cases,maintaining a clean and orderly work area throughout the OR. May terminally clean OR suites based upon department design.
+ Assists with patient positioning, lifting and transfers. Performs sterile holds as needed.
+ Restocks and maintains an adequate amount of suppliesand linensneeded for surgeryand/or anesthesia daily use. May maintain oxygen tanks based upon department design. Reportsshortage of suppliesto supervisor.
+ Sets up equipmentand positioning devices as needed for surgery.Reports to supervisor anybroken,defective,or missing equipment or positioning devices. Cleans and maintains proper storage of equipment and positioning devices.
+ Transports patientsto from multiple departments as needed. May obtain clean inpatient beds and stretcher based upon department design.
+ Responds to a variety of requests including running errandsto and from other departments, obtaining items as needed, etc.
+ Performs patient POCT as needed. Performs daily quality control checks on POCT devices.
+ Maintains fluid and blanket warming logs for department as needed based upon department design.
+ May discard and replace biohazards and sharps containers as needed based upon department design.
+ Contributes to unit performance improvement and/or quality improvement activities.
+ Ensures proper specimen and/or blood product handling, labeling and transportation per department procedure.
+ Takes call as required.
