Help Make Our Roads Safer – One Line at a Time!
Are you ready to make a difference in your community? The Lee County Department of Transportation is looking for hardworking individuals to join our pavement markings team. You’ll play a key role in keeping drivers safe by painting and maintaining road markings on our streets.
What You’ll Do:
+ Operate equipment such as striping machines and pavement marker tools.
+ Apply paint, thermoplastic, and other materials to create lines, arrows, and road symbols.
+ Follow work orders to understand marking layouts and design plans.
+ Safely remove old markings using tools like pressure washers, sandblasters, or grinders.
+ Drive large trucks and equipment to job sites.
+ Follow all safety rules and help keep your team safe.
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Use Specialized Equipment: Operate machines and hand tools to apply road markings.
+ Install and Maintain Markings: Keep road lines, symbols, and messages clear and accurate.
+ Read Work Orders: Review plans carefully before starting each job.
+ Remove Old Markings: Use safe methods to remove outdated or incorrect markings.
+ Drive Work Vehicles: Operate large trucks and equipment responsibly.
+ Work Safely: Follow safety regulations on every job site.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Minimum Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: 1 year of experience in construction, general maintenance, or repair work. Must have experience using hand tools and power tools.
License Requirements:
+ Must have a valid Florida Class “B” Commercial Learner’s Permit at time of job offer.
+ Must obtain a Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of starting.
Safety Requirement:
+ This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to drug and alcohol testing under federal DOT rules (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience working with traffic markings is a big plus.
+ IMSA Certifications (or ability to earn them):
+ Traffic Safety in Work Zones – within 3 months of hire.
+ Signs and Markings Level I – within 1 year of hire.
Supplemental Information
Schedule:
+ Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
