Overview
This position manages personnel and all operational activities of the Transmission Control Center (TCC) to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the transmission system. This includes responsibility for Transmission Operations and Balancing Authority functions within the Transmission Control Center, and for ensuring compliance with NERC Reliability Standards, SERC operating policies, NAESB standards, Reliability Coordinator operating procedures, and FERC regulations.

Responsibilities
+ Provide direct supervision and professional development of managerial and exempt level System Control Center employees.
+ Provide oversight and direction for all System Control Center activities to ensure the integrity, safety and reliability of the transmission system.
+ Ensure that LG&E/KU Transmission Operator and Balancing Area functions comply with applicable FERC, NERC, SERC and NAESB policies and standards.
+ Ensure the proper documentation is developed and maintained to support compliance requirements.
+ File reports with NERC, SERC, and DOE as required.
+ Provide oversight for the development and implementation of switching and outage management procedures and processes related to the maintenance and operation of the transmission system in compliance with regulations to support safe and reliable operations.
+ Ensure employees remain highly trained and maintain required certifications.
+ Manage the physical Control Center to ensure that facilities and equipment are cost effective and adequate to ensure efficient operations.
+ Implement human performance initiatives to help reduce, mitigate and learn from errors.
+ Perform post-event analysis following significant operational events to identify lessons learned and develop mitigation to address potential impacts to operations.
+ Act as a liaison between Transmission Operations and other departments to facilitate the flow of real-time information and support cross-functional initiatives, as necessary.
+ Keep upper management informed of real-time conditions and other issues impacting system operations, as necessary.
+ Ensure safety of field personnel.
+ Participate in relevant industry working groups/meetings and represents the company, as required.
+ Perform other duties as assigned by Director, Transmission Operations and Compliance.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Required Education
+ B.S. Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline
+ NERC Certified System Operator
Required Experience
10+ years job-related experience in electrical engineering, economic analysis, and/or system planning
Preferred Qualifications
•Supervisory and strong interpersonal skills.
•Leadership skills.
•Working knowledge of industry transmission and generation systems, including economic and engineering principles regarding interconnections with neighboring utilities.
•Working knowledge of applicable safety rules and procedures.
•PC skills.
•Strong project management skills.
•Ability to understand complex analytical measurement systems and the application of various types of technologies.
•Understanding of contracts and accounting principles related to wholesale and retail sales.
•Understanding of relevant energy management system computer hardware and software.
•Decision making skills.
