    A Brief Overview

     

    The Perfusion Technician supports the clinical perfusionist and department in non-patient care responsibilities, including oversight of disposable inventory, cleaning/ organizing/ maintenance of equipment, communicating with biomedical and other hospital staff, assisting in transport of patients, and other ancillary duties. They become familiar with common non-clinical issues concerning locating and obtaining supplies and equipment, wayfinding, personnel, and act in support of the perfusionist's clinical duties so that the CCP may focus on patient care and professional responsibilities.

    What you will do

    + Assists with training of new staff.

    + Assures the prudent use of resources and efficiently maintains inventory.

    + Follows Hospital Safety and Infection Prevention policy and guidelines for self, patients, visitors and employees.

    + Maintains professional behavior and appearance.

    + Maintains professional self-development by participating in educational opportunities available both internally and externally.

    + Manages information utilizing appropriate manual or electronic systems for shift work activity. Reports any discrepancies or unusual activity to the Acting Lead Perfusionist.

    + Participates in and complies with departmental and institutional regulatory requirements, policy and procedure pertaining to quality control, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance. Actively participates in quality improvement issues with appropriate monitoring and documentation.

    + Participates in Hospital Departmental Committees and Task Forces as requested.

    + Performs duties by following the policy and procedures of the hospital and the Perfusion-ECMO department. Works collaboratively with peers to achieve department’s goals and organization’s vision.

    + Performs technical tasks while conforming to standard procedures and methods used to clean, assemble, transport and store perfusion-ECMO equipment.

    + Prepares assigned shift work report of activity and appraises Acting Lead Perfusionist of issues and needs.

    + Promotes a positive work environment by practicing good communication, diversity awareness and teamwork.

    + Stocking/Inventory management

    + Ensure supplies are available and appropriate for use, rotate stock to prevent outdates, identify and deal with damaged/defective products. Works closely with surgical materials to maintain par levels.

    + Check/Stock Pump room

    + Check/stock ECMO Code Carts

    + Check/Stock Cath storage + cath lab cart

    + Round/check in with surgical materials

    + Check/stock Perfusion storage/supplies

    + Readiness of OR/Equipment

    + Maintain cleanliness of pump room

    + Rotate Perfusion equipment before/after cases

    + Liquid HMS QC check

    + Heart lung machine cleaning/maintenance

    + Heater cleaning/monitoring

    + Check/stock/rotate balloon pumps

    + Retrieve drugs, disposables for cardiac cases

    + Battery test HLM and ECMO circuits

    + Monitor Perfusion off-site and 300p equipment

    + Interdepartmental communication and tasks

    + Work with VAD team to monitor equipment

    + Work with clinical engineering-biomed to resolve equipment issues

    + Assist biomed with equipment PM schedule

    + Direct CCP Assistance

    + Assist in patient transports

    + Backup support during CBP (Cardiopulmonary By-Pass) for perfusionist in the case

    + Help in cleaning OR after procedures with focus on perfusion equipment

    + Assist float in OR/ECMO surveillance, act as a back-up

    Education Qualifications

    + High School Diploma or GED Required

    Experience Qualifications

    + One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience Required

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Ability to effectively prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

    + Ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships with a diverse population

    + Ability to follow policies and procedures regarding all aspects of an assignment including basic arithmetic and inventory calculations

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

    + Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the job

    + Knowledge of and experience with perfusion-ECMO workflows and practices

    + Knowledge of perfusion and ECMO equipment including ECMO CV Code carts

    + Knowledge of basic medical terminology, basic understanding of equipment, supply distribution, storage and inventory control

    + Knowledge of perfusion -ECMO cleaning, including the basic assembly of complex equipment

    Licenses and Certifications

    + BLS - Basic Life Support required

    + Category II - Tasks that involve NO exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks

    Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $36.66 - $41.30 per hour

     

    The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
