    This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to lead the development of innovative software solutions within our Early Clinical Development (ECD) department in Roche/Genentech. In this critical role, you will lead the strategic direction and execution of software engineering initiatives, enabling the acceleration of early clinical trial development and ultimately bringing life-changing medicines to patients faster. You will mentor and coach engineers within the ECD Clinical Data Insight and Automation (CDI&A), fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

    The Opportunity:

    As a Principal Software Engineering, you will make a significant impact by:

    + Driving the technical strategy and delivery of robust data flows and applications across key domains in Clinical Trial Development.

    + Championing technical excellence by improving our application architecture and data ecosystem, leveraging modern, cloud-first, and best development design practices.

    + Creating software which integrates with generative AI models appropriate for our data.

    + Enabling advanced analytics and AI/ML capabilities by delivering integrated data sets and facilitating model implementation.

    + Building and maintaining strong partnerships with key stakeholders and leaders across our global organization.

    + Contribute to engineering strategy by making key technical decisions to drive consolidation, reduce technical debt, and develop common solutions across domains.

    + Advancing interoperability by designing global applications that integrate seamlessly across workflows in Clinical Trial Development.

    + Following AI/Software developments at Roche/Genentech to build collaboration and identify existing solutions.

    + Providing solid engineering architecture, identifying new opportunities to build common, scalable solutions.

    + Coach and mentoring software engineers, data scientists, and machine learning engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration.

    Who You Are:

    We are looking for an individual contributor who is passionate about advancing technology and creating impactful solutions. You are someone who can think strategically while delivering on commitments, and you thrive in a collaborative environment.

    To be successful in this role, you should have:

    + 7+ years of experience leading software projects and a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a similar technical field, combined with extensive experience in software engineering.

    + Deep technical knowledge of modern software engineering, cloud platforms, data storage solutions, and building scalable web applications and deep technical knowledge of Generative AI and machine learning, with knowledge on deploying AI-integrated systems

    + A proven track record of leading large, complex technical projects from zero to one, influencing technical decisions, and collaborating effectively with multiple teams.

    + Excellent communication and partnership skills, with the ability to think strategically and foster a collaborative environment.

    + Experienced in leading software projects, with proven success delivering enterprise-scale solutions.

    + Strong technical background in building robust data pipelines, applications, and full-stack solutions (front-end, back-end, databases - JavaScript, Vue, Python, SQL).

    + Skilled in modern software engineering approaches (cloud-native design, APIs, microservices, event-driven systems) and Familiarity with clinical trial development field and associated systems (EDC, Veeva Systems)

    + Strong project management skill and keep the completion in mind and passionate about technical excellence, product usability, and reducing complexity.

     

    Onsite presence on our South San Francisco campus is expected for at least 3 days a week.

     

    Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

     

    The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $177,300 - $329,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
