Responsibilities:
General Purpose
Functions as a lead or coordinator of project(s) for the service and in some clinical areas may oversee licensed clinicians. Functions clinically as a primary therapist and/or evaluator providing mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment to patients with a mental health disorder. Provides leadership and supervisory support to an interdisciplinary group of clinical staff, as appropriate. Collaborates on policy and program development, operations management, and plans program activities for their assigned clinical program area. Acts as an integral member of the clinical team, providing psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, resource consultation, and treatment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Provides intervention and treatment to patients to help stabilize patients and maintain mental wellness.
+ Exercises considerable independent judgment with respect to the treatment of psychiatric patients in clinics and outreach settings.
+ Conducts assessment of patients to provide diagnostic clarification and make recommendations to child and family, and other team members
+ Provides consultation to team members (e.g., PCPs) to address mental health concerns and provide recommendations.
+ Functions as team lead or coordinator of processes/projects.
+ Assists in providing supervision and contributes to the evaluation of an interdisciplinary group of staff.
+ Assists in onboarding activities for staff in the service including policies and procedures as well as clinical teaching/orientation.
+ Assists with supporting and leading the daily interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, which may include discussion of clinical cases and documenting minutes from those meetings.
+ Provides coverage and accessibility for intakes, vacations, sick calls, as needed.
+ Documents interventions and treatment recommendations in patient's chart in compliance with division, department and hospital policy.
+ Participates in activities of the department and assigned division, including but not limited to ensuring policies and procedures are implemented with regard to professional practice, discharge planning, and patient care, timely completion of time reporting and other hospital or department forms, and hospital and department mandatory in-service training programs.
+ Facilitates department and hospital quality assurance and staff development activities.
+ Ensures that proper treatment and referral protocols are followed with respect to child abuse, domestic violence, consultation with specialty clinics, and referral both within and outside of the hospital.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Master's degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in Mental Health Counseling. Required
+ Or a related mental health field and 2 years of professional counseling experience required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
+ Knowledge about and ability to provide behavioral health assessments/evaluations and evidence-based interventions preferred.
+ Commitment to and routine demonstration of biopsychosocial approach to care of individuals and families preferred.
+ Demonstrated ability to be flexible and responsive in rapidly evolving health care environments preferred.
+ Dedication to delivering a team-based integrated model of care preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
+ NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) required upon hire.
