    Job Summary

    This is a new part-time position to manage an innovative and interdisciplinary public engagement program, The Our-Trees Initiative ( TOUTI ). This mission of the project is to raise awareness and incite actions to understand and increase a sense of stewardship about trees and forested habitats nationally and globally. The Initiative is aimed at multiple sectors of the public, with a focus on non-traditional public groups. In close collaboration with the project Director, the Program Manager organizes and coordinates the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of TOUTI activities Support comes from the National Geographic Society and other organizations committed to strengthening connections between nature, science, and society.

    Responsibilities

    1. Oversees administrative matters regarding the day-to-day operations and procedures of the TOUTI program, including recording and archiving meeting notes, managing calendars, scheduling calls, managing the budget.

    2. Develops and implements the initiatives financial goals and performs strategic and tactical planning for the program by working with the Director to establish short and long range objectives. Forecasts, prepares or directs the preparation of the program budget and monitors expenditures. Negotiates terms of contracts and/or service agreements.

    3. Prepares or assists in preparing grant proposals, audit reports, protocols, publications and articles.

    4. Manages Initiative websites, social media, public relations activities, and a project “resource hub” of people, tree stories from multiple sources, and existing programs and networks related to trees and public awareness.

    5. Plans, develops, coordinates and implements activities to meet identified needs of collaborating groups by identifying appropriate educational and tree conservation actions for different public groups

    6. Works with professionals in diverse fields to write and provide graphics and texts for engagement and education, tailored for different public groups.

    7. Assists in the assessment, of the performance and impacts of activities

    8. May supervise subordinate staff, by hiring, training, establishing goals and evaluating performance.

    9. Serves as project representative, which may include representing the initiative to external and internal audiences.

    10. Stays abreast of legal or other related changes impacting the program and makes recommendations for improvement and compliance.

    11. Carries out other tasks as requested by the Program Director.

    Minimum Qualifications

    **EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT :** 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

    **Operations Program Manager, I:** Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree.

     

    Preferences

     

    Excellent writing and graphics skills preferred. Prior experience working in an academic settint, non-profit, or business settings, website maintenance, and strong communication skills are preferred. Candidate should be comfortable with professional writing and speaking to a range of constituents, including academics, community partners, the public, and policy-makers.Team work and and a collaborative working style are valued.
