The Senior Director of Organizational Learning (OL) provides strategic leadership for professional, career, and leadership development programs that serve over 50,000 faculty and staff across the Ann Arbor campus and Michigan Medicine. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Strategy, Planning, and Operations, you will oversee a collaborative, service-oriented team responsible for developing scalable learning solutions. You will need to be an expert in adult learning theory, organizational development, and change leadership. As the Senior Director, you will translate institutional priorities into practical, measurable strategies that reach employees at every level of our organization.
This is a hybrid role with onsite expectations in Ann Arbor, MI.
Responsibilities*
+ Align OL strategy with the Look to Michigan vision and UHR frameworks.
+ Translate plans into scalable models, processes, and measurable goals.
+ Partner across the institution to identify learning needs and develop integrated roadmaps.
+ Foster a culture of learning through collaboration and best-in-class offerings.
+ Measure program effectiveness and apply change management techniques to programs, ensuring continuous improvement of services.
+ Anticipate workforce skill gaps and champion competency development.
+ Lead the OL team in developing scalable, innovative programs.
+ Develop highly collaborative, cross-functional teams to achieve the department's collective objectives and key results.
+ Provide strategic direction across resources, budget, marketing, and priorities.
+ Set and track departmental goals; build and retain a customer-focused team.
+ Oversee content curation and development with care for workforce needs.
+ Partner with UHR leadership to integrate development efforts and shape institutional strategy.
+ Embed university values into learning strategies and practices.
+ Build and sustain strategic partnerships to influence institutional learning priorities.
+ Oversee OL's budget to improve resources and return on investment; partner with finance to align expenditures with goals; manage vendor contracts and evaluate in-house vs. outsourced solutions.
+ Use data to guide investments and programming decisions.
Required Qualifications*
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education
+ 10+ years of progressively responsible experience working in learning and development using different advanced practices such as immersive learning, learning experience platforms, and personalized learning paths
+ 4+ years of experience leading the development of learning and development strategic plans and bringing those plans through to implementation
+ 4+ years formal management experience of employees including workforce planning, recruiting, professional development, performance management, and succession planning
+ Experience applying instructional design principles, adult learning theories, and the application of multiple learning modalities
+ Expert level proficiency in strategies and applicable use cases for learning and development technologies
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a decentralized environment with multiple stakeholders
+ Proven skill leading through transformational change
