Job Summary
The Overdose Prevention Engagement Network (OPEN) is dedicated to improving lives and reducing the harms of substance use. By engaging individuals, communities, and organizations, OPEN shares education and resources to strengthen person-centered prevention, treatment, and recovery.
We are seeking a highly motivated **Research Project Manager** to join our team. The ideal candidate will oversee several complex research projects, including our NIH-funded R01s:
+ STEPS (Strategies for Enhancing Perioperative Care for Surgical Patients with Opioid Tolerance)
+ STRIDES (Surgical Tailored Recovery and Integrated Decision-Support for Patients with OUD in Perioperative Settings)
This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced research environment.
This is a hybrid position, requiring 2-3 days per week on-site at the North Campus Research Complex in Ann Arbor.

Responsibilities*
Research Project Management:
+ Lead strategic planning, execution, and evaluation of STEPS and STRIDES projects.
+ Monitor project performance, analyze outcomes, and prepare required reports for sponsors.
+ Provide team leadership, coordination, and guidance across project activities.
+ Supervise and mentor staff, including a full-time coordinator and part-time research assistants.
+ Oversee all aspects of study operations: volunteer scheduling, informed consent, study visits, data quality, protocol compliance, and closeout activities.
+ Lead hospital recruitment and training for care pathway implementation.
+ Facilitate the development of educational resources and clinical care pathways.
+ Organize and lead project team meetings, including agenda preparation and follow-up.
+ Collaborate with OPEN leadership on reporting, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQI) Partnership Engagement:
+ Build and sustain partnerships with CQIs to advance OPENs initiatives.
+ Identify and implement process improvements and best practices across CQI projects.
+ Co-design, implement, and evaluate joint CQI + OPEN initiatives.
+ Collect and analyze data to guide decision-making and assess project impact.
+ Facilitate stakeholder engagement through meetings, workshops, and feedback sessions.
+ Prepare reports and presentations to communicate progress and outcomes.
+ Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Required Qualifications*
+ Bachelors degree in a related field and 5-6 years of professional experience.
+ Supervisory experience.
+ Experience managing projects with defined budgets.
+ Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
+ Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on strategy and risk management.
+ Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
+ Proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft Office applications.
+ Ability to work independently with initiative and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desired Qualifications*
+ Bachelors degree in Nursing or a Masters degree (preferred).
+ Experience with Epic or other electronic health records.
+ Experience with federal and state-funded research projects.
+ Background in research within an academic medical center.
+ Experience developing and implementing clinical care pathways for complex patients.
+ Familiarity with the structure and function of Collaborative Quality Initiatives.
Work Schedule
This hybrid position requires 2-3 days per a week in our office located at the North Campus Research Complex in Ann Arbor.

Additional Information
Please note: This position is 2 years term-limited through 9/30/2027 with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
