The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (SMTD) at the University of Michigan seeks a motivated, detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst to provide expert analytical, reporting, and business partnership support for the School's complex operations and finances. The ideal candidate possesses deep experience in financial modeling and variance analysis. Responsibilities*
+ Serve as the key resource and provide expert analytical support on financial matters and special projects within SMTD.
+ Perform routine and ad hoc financial analysis for school, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities for corrective action. This includes analysis of tuition attribution, payroll expenses, degree level and class level enrollment, instructional efficiency, and financial aid spending.
+ Support strategic planning by developing financial forecasts, analyzing cost variances, and recommending adjustments to ensure the School's finances remain on target.
+ Track budgets, monitor financial transactions, and conduct variance analyses; investigate and resolve discrepancies and proactively identify trends or risks.
+ Create, maintain, and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual reports including financial statements, accreditation reporting, and performance dashboards.
+ In collaboration with the Chief Administrative Officer, coordinate with department leaders and administrative partners to enhance financial understanding, promote sound fiscal management, and offer expert financial guidance.
+ Actively contribute to the strategic direction of SMTD by prioritizing team activities and supporting organizational objectives through effective leadership and collaboration.
Required Qualifications*
+ Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field, with a strong understanding of accounting and financial principles or equivalent work experience.
+ Five (5) or more years of progressive experience in finance, business analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and/or financial analysis, including experience with fund accounting.
+ Demonstrated experience in developing and analyzing complex financial models and interpreting data to provide actionable insights.
+ Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to effectively convey financial information to diverse audiences through presentations and reports.
+ High proficiency with word processing, financial spreadsheet, and collaboration applications.
+ Ability to deliver excellent customer service, adapt to changing priorities, and manage multiple concurrent assignments.
+ Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate sensitive and complex financial issues
Desired Qualifications*
+ Experience with University of Michigan financial systems and processes.
+ Experience in a higher education, the arts, or a large complex organization.

This is a remote position. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
