The Department of Physical Therapy at Ithaca College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible faculty member at the rank of assistant professor, with coursework beginning August 2026. Join one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious physical therapy programs with a distinguished 77-year history. Our program maintains one of New York State's highest NPTE licensure pass rates and ranks in the top 25% nationally.
We seek a dedicated educator who is committed to excellence in physical therapy education. The successful candidate will develop and implement DPT-level curriculum using active learning strategies that foster an inclusive classroom environment. This role offers opportunities for clinical teaching, clinically focused scholarship, student mentoring through our on-campus clinic, academic advising, and meaningful service contributions.

Required Qualifications
+ Active, unrestricted physical therapy license in any U.S. jurisdiction and Physical therapy licensure in New York State by appointment date
+ Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) in related field (degree completion is preferred at the time of appointment; however, ABD candidates with significant progress are encouraged to apply) OR completion of an ABPTRFE-accredited non-clinical residency program.
+ Commitment to excellence in physical therapy education
+ Evidence of scholarly promise with a developed or emerging research agenda
Preferred Qualifications
While we welcome applicants with expertise across all areas of clinical practice, preference will be given to candidates who are prepared to teach coursework related to musculoskeletal/orthopedics and/or evidence-based practice. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications: at least 3 years of clinical experience, possession of ABPTS Board certification, teaching experience in academic or residency/fellowship settings, and/or a history of scholarly publications/presentations.
About the Department of Physical Therapy
The Department of Physical Therapy is housed within the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance (HSHP) at Ithaca College, and offers two academic pathways - a six-year combined BS/DPT and a three-year professional graduate entry level DPT. Our collaborative team of physical therapy experts are passionate about student learning and success, and you will receive one-on-one mentoring to support your integration into the curriculum, HSHP, and college. You’ll have access to our state-of-the-art facilities, including a human anatomy cadaver lab (https://www.ithaca.edu/academics/school-health-sciences-and-human-performance/clinics-and-labs/human-anatomy-lab) , movement analysis lab (https://www.ithaca.edu/academics/school-health-sciences-and-human-performance/clinics-and-labs/movement-analysis-lab) , a healthcare simulation lab (https://www.ithaca.edu/academics/school-health-sciences-and-human-performance/clinics-and-labs/healthcare-simulation-lab) , and an on-campus pro-bono physical therapy clinic (https://www.ithaca.edu/academics/school-health-sciences-and-human-performance/clinics-and-labs/occupational-and-physical-therapy-clinic) for teaching and scholarship. We also emphasize interprofessional education and collaborative practice where possible – and faculty, staff, and students from across professions within HSHP work collaboratively to promote positive outcomes for individuals and communities in programs such as our Center for Life Skills, Parkinson's Wellness Collaborative, Performing Arts Wellness Initiative, and the Therapeutic Alliance Program.
