Senior Mine Engineer

Bayer is seeking a Senior Mine Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in ensuring the success of our mining operations. In this position, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and optimizing mining activities to meet production goals while maintaining safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the long-term success of our mining operations.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Mine Engineer, are to:

+ Schedule annual pit mining volumes for the next 2-3 years and update reserve estimations annually;

+ Create pit and backfill schedules to meet ore quotas, ensure backfill space availability, and provide cap and cover areas with the required material volumes for reclamation;

+ Monitor and adjust geologic and chemistry models using updated ore trenching and exploration drill data, revising pit and overburden pile designs as needed based on slope stability analysis and geologic mapping;

+ Ensure accuracy of regular pit surveys and oversee updates to active mine maps and ultimate-mined maps, collaborating with the mine surveyor and personnel to collect and utilize required survey data;

+ Distribute revised pit and backfill designs to the mining contractor for budgeting purposes, ensuring designs are uploaded to GPS-equipped equipment and providing necessary information for their operations;

+ Design and implement water management plans to meet discharge requirements, protect watersheds, and ensure adequate collection and direction of mine runoff waters;

+ Develop pit water management plans to direct water encountered during mining to appropriate ponds and ensure sufficient water storage capacity;

+ Support offsite operations, including the Soda Springs plant, quarry, and Rock Springs plant, by providing updated ore and mine designs, volumes, and assistance with waste and material stockpile designs;

+ Collaborate with plant engineering and consultants to develop and install engineering projects related to the mine tipple, railroad crossing, ore haul road, and ore dump facilities.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field;

+ Minimum of 7 years of professional mining experience;

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Master’s degree in Mine or Civil Engineering;

+ Proficiency in mining and CAD software;

+ A working knowledge of mining and heavy equipment operations.

Posting is available tuntil October 30, 2025.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $112,200.00 – $168,300.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
