    Compensation: 95K-105K

    Shrub Oak International School (www.shruboak.org) is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. Located in northern Westchester County, Shrub Oak offers unparalleled educational opportunities for autistic students in a family-centric, supportive environment. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of students across the spectrum, and our curriculum is based on the most advanced and successful evidence-based clinical and academic approaches in ASD education. The Pines at Shrub Oak is a 24-bed, coeducational, interim residential placement for students on the autism spectrum who may need significant psychiatric support and stabilization before transitioning to a less restrictive environment. Students at the Pines receive psychiatric services in addition to the academic and life skills instruction in a safe, supportive environment with a 2:1 student to staff ratio.

    Essential Functions:

    The Residential Manager will provide their expertise and direct leadership regarding programming, integrating treatment plans into the milieu, and guiding therapeutic interventions at The Pines.  In collaboration with the Assistant Director and Clinical Team Lead, the Residential Manager provides administrative management for daily operations, while hiring, managing, and leading a team of Shift Supervisors to support the needs of the students at The Pines. This person is responsible for guiding and mentoring staff, assisting with emergency response procedures, and collaborating across all departments within The Pines. Working alongside the transdisciplinary team, the Residential Manager will collaborate to develop and implement treatment approaches and strategies, ensuring individualized, cohesive, and consistent care for every student. The Residential Manager works closely with colleagues to create/maintain an inclusive community and foster specific skill development to meet the individualized needs of The Pines student population.  Having access to confidential information regarding Shrub Oak/The Pines and its students, discretion and independent judgement is required.

     

    Responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of Shift Supervisors and Youth Care Specialists regarding the provision of supportive services to The Pines residents and family members, including support through all daily programming.

     

    + Manage the day-to-day operations and programming for students within the The Pines, including the scheduling of YCS and supervisory staff to ensure appropriate coverage.

    + Directly hire, supervise, and manage the performance of residential YCSs & shift supervisors, with the goal of developing staff based on their developmental needs.

    + Works directly with the Assistant Program Director and Clinical Team Lead in support of all departmental activities and acts on their behalf when they are not present, providing all necessary updates as required.

    + Manages the scheduling, time & attendance procedures, and approvals for the residential department by working with individual supervisors to provide training and upskilling of the procedures.

    + Provide regularly occurring individual and group supervision for residential staff.

    + Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary co-lead team to provide comprehensive care and treatment to students at The Pines.

    + Provide on-call support surrounding urgent matters including staffing concerns and crisis management.

    + Work directly with supervisors, clinical, and YCS’s to manage challenging behaviors safely and respectfully with the goal of teaching student's alternative productive behaviors.

    + Develop and maintain trusting relationships with students and tailor programming to students’ unique interests, needs, and goals.

    + Explain, enforce and support all policies and procedures ensuring an inclusive and respectful community that promotes self-advocacy, collaboration, and independence.

    + Complete administrative tasks, including but not limited to, assisting with move-in/moveout of students, orientation, maintenance requests, incident reports, and progress tracking.

    + Responsible for oversight and review of documentation to ensure timeliness and accuracy.

    + Attend to and report all emergencies and/or other situations requiring immediate attention in a timely manner to the appropriate staff member(s) in accordance with Shrub Oak policies/procedures.

    + Support the treatment planning process, including participating in all related meetings and collaborating with students and other members of the treatment team to identify, achieve, and document goals.

    + Serve as a campus and community resource for students and staff by advising and providing guidance in planning programs, activities, academic support.

    + Collaborate with clinical, education, and recreation staff to ensure all students maintain a regular and appropriate schedule of events and activities.

    + Attend all staff meetings and seminars as scheduled, including all staff orientation/training.

    + Support other department responsibilities as needed and determined.

    Requirements:

    Experience & Education:

    + Minimum 5 years of work experience in a residential setting

    + Supervisory and/or management experience in residential or related setting

    + Experience working with neurodivergent adolescents required

    + Experience working with adolescents with mental health diagnosis required

    + Experience working with and understanding the development of individualized education plans (IEP) required

    + Experience managing, supervising, mentoring, and developing staff required

    + Experience with administrative functions, including scheduling, required

    + Crisis management and de-escalation experience required

    + Experience handling aggressive clients/customers required

    + Customer service experience required

    + 7 years of work experience in a high-volume/demanding customer service or human service position with managerial responsibilities preferred; special consideration given to those with EMT/EMS, psychiatric, behavioral health, clinical, or similar experience preferred

    + Minimum 5 years of experience in a manager, supervisor, or higher-level role required

    + Experience working with adolescents and young adults with autism in a residential or school setting required

    + Minimum education level of bachelor’s degree in human services or related field required /Master’s degree or higher preferred

    Skills & Abilities:

    + Strong ability to process and retain information and to think critically and analytically during crisis situations/under pressure is required

    + Comfortability and experience managing crisis behavior and coaching staff around crisis management is required

    + Ability to coordinate, supervise, develop, and engage YCS’s, Shift Supervisors and Clinical team in alignment with organizational and departmental objectives, is required

    + Ability to make reasonable assessments and decisions, both generally and as they pertain to successful coordination of day-to-day aspects of the role is required

    + Exceptional written communication skills, specifically involving documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and other related administrative tasks is required

    + Ability to handle acute behaviors including aggression, impulsivity, and symptoms related to psychosis

    + Ability to adapt and remain flexible while leading, developing, and mentoring others

    + Skilled in managing challenging behaviors and executing de-escalation techniques

    + Ability and willingness to learn new skills

    + Strong ability to build relationships with students and peers

    + Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment •

    + Exceptional verbal communication skills are required

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions required

    + Ability to work well within a team, as well as collaborate with colleagues, and others across disciplines within Shrub Oak/The Pines staff required

    + Ability to get TCIS trained and remain current on all trainings is required

    + The ability to work flexible hours is required.

    + Previous experience and training with crisis intervention strategies or techniques including TCIS and SCIP is strongly preferred

    Physical Requirements/Demands:

    A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice. May need to lift/move boxes up to 25 pounds and move or rearrange furniture. The Pines utilizes TCIS restraints when needed. Must be physically able to correctly implement restraints.

    Work Environment:

    We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly on the unit, inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
