The Epic Applications Manager plays a critical leadership role in guiding the strategic direction, operational excellence, and expansion of Epic systems across the organization. This role combines hands-on expertise in Epic delivery with strategic oversight of the Application Managed Services (AMS) program to ensure system stability, scalability, and alignment with enterprise growth initiatives.
The Lead serves as the Epic subject matter expert (SME) and trusted advisor to executive leadership, driving system optimization, governance, and strategic planning for new service lines, acquisitions, and business growth. The Lead leverages a deep understanding of Epic products, strategy, and limitations to inform decision-making, system design, and business development opportunities. This position also contributes to talent acquisition, development, and retention, ensuring a high-performing, future-ready Epic applications team.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & System Expansion
+ Partner with executive and operational leaders to align Epic capabilities with the organization’s growth strategy, including new facility openings, service line expansion, and acquisitions.
+ Act as the Epic subject matter expert, guiding business and IT leaders through system design, integration, and expansion planning.
+ Provide Epic SME insight and technical expertise in support of RFP responses, business development, and new client acquisition processes.
+ Oversee strategic Epic roadmap development to support scalability, innovation, and organizational maturity.
+ Ensure the AMS model evolves to meet expanding enterprise needs and maintains alignment with business priorities.
Epic Delivery & AMS Oversight
+ Provide executive oversight of the Epic AMS team, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality support, system maintenance, and optimization.
+ Establish and enforce performance standards, SLAs, and key performance metrics for AMS delivery.
+ Oversee system upgrades, enhancements, and change management processes in coordination with governance and PMO teams.
+ Drive proactive issue resolution, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement initiatives.
Talent Acquisition & Team Development
+ Participate in talent acquisition efforts for Epic analysts, leads, and specialists, ensuring alignment with company culture and long-term skill needs.
+ Build and retain a high-performing team through mentorship, training, and certification planning.
+ Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning within the applications team.
+ Lead succession planning and workforce development to support long-term organizational scalability.
Governance, Compliance & Financial Oversight
+ Participate in IT and clinical governance committees, aligning Epic initiatives with enterprise objectives.
+ Participate in AMS and application-related budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
+ Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory standards across all Epic applications.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
+ Minimum 7+ years of experience managing Epic applications, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
+ Active Epic certification(s) required (multiple module certifications preferred).
+ Demonstrated success leading Epic AMS or large-scale Epic support and optimization programs.
+ Proven experience supporting health system expansion, mergers/acquisitions, or multi-entity Epic environments.
+ Strong leadership skills with experience in team building, recruitment, and workforce development.
+ Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across all organizational levels.
+ ITIL, PMP, or Epic TS certification a plus.
