Position Summary:
Reporting to the Benefits Manager, the Leaves and Benefits Administrator plays a key role in creating a positive and supportive employee experience by serving as a trusted resource and counselor for employees navigating leave and benefits processes.
This position administers the University’s leave of absence programs, supports employee benefits administration, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and University policies. The Administrator partners with employees, managers, and third-party vendors to deliver timely, compassionate, and proactive guidance that fosters well-being and a smooth transition during periods of leave and return to work.
Essential Functions:
Serves as a primary point of contact for employees and supervisors, providing empathetic, clear, and proactive counseling regarding leave options, benefits, and related processes.
Administers leave of absence programs, including Family Medical Leave ( FMLA ), New York State Disability, New York Paid Family Leave, Salary Continuance Program, Long Term Disability, and Workers’ Compensation.
Ensures consistent compliance with applicable laws, University policies, and collective bargaining agreements while balancing employee needs with organizational requirements.
Coordinates with third-party vendors to manage leave, disability, and workers’ compensation programs, advocating for timely and accurate resolution of employee requests.
Monitors and tracks employees on leave, working closely with Payroll Services and HRIS to ensure correct pay and benefit continuation.
Counsels employees and managers on return-to-work procedures, partnering with Talent Management to support workforce planning needs.
Maintains accurate records of leave and workers’ compensation cases, including OSHA reporting requirements.
Regularly reviews and analyzes leave data to anticipate issues, improve communication, and recommend process improvements for a better employee experience.
Identify situations where ADA accommodations may apply and coordinate with Occupational Health Medicine to support employee needs.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 1 year of experience in employee benefits administration.
Minimum Salary: $70,000
Maximum Salary: $75,000
