Job Summary

Position: Part-time consulting

Duration: Approximately 4-6 month contract

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Independent Software Verification & Validation (V&V) Engineer to perform an Independent Software V&V project involving two High-Speed Interface Module (HSIM) cards. The effort will be conducted in accordance with IEEE 1012-2004 standards at Software Integrity Level (SIL) 4.

This is a remote contract position, with potential for a short on-site visit to Dallas, TX for hands-on functional testing (travel expenses covered).

The project is expected to last approximately four months.

Key Responsibilities

+ Perform independent Verification and Validation (V&V) tasks as defined in IEEE 1012-2004 SIL 4, including reviews, analyses, evaluations, and tests.

+ Conduct independent reviews of all software life-cycle artifacts—requirements, design, source code, test documentation, and associated verification records.

+ Execute independent verification and validation testing, ensuring compliance with SIL 4 standards and independence requirements.

+ Review Assembly-language source code (Intel ASM86) to confirm it accurately and completely implements approved requirements and design.

+ Document findings, non-conformances, and recommendations per IEEE 1012-2004 documentation standards.

+ Prepare evaluation reports and final certification recommendations, coordinating remotely with the client’s engineering staff as needed.

+ If required, perform limited on-site functional testing on HSIM hardware located in Dallas, TX.

Technical Scope

+ Software Modules:

+ Q134B – HSIM_DI1.ASM (~954 lines)

+ Q136B – HSIM_DO1.A10 (~871 lines)

+ Development Environment: Intel ASM86 toolchain (ASM86 v3.3, LINK86 v3.1, LOC86 v2.5, OH86 v1.0, HEX_MOD2)

+ Technology Context: Legacy Intel 80C188EB Assembly-language software originally developed in the 1990s

Required Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field

+ Minimum 8+ years of software V&V or independent verification experience under safety-critical standards (e.g., IEEE 1012, DO-178, IEC 61508, EN 50128, or equivalent)

+ Strong proficiency in Assembly-language review and analysis

+ Demonstrated experience with SIL 4 or equivalent safety-critical software integrity levels

+ Familiarity with legacy Intel ASM86 or 80C188EB development environments

+ Excellent documentation, analysis, and reporting skills

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience performing independent V&V for SIL 4-classified projects

+ Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop or embedded system functional testing

+ Prior work in transportation, aerospace, or industrial control systems

+ Experience preparing IEEE 1012-compliant deliverables
