About the Division of Endocrinology
The Division of Endocrinology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is a thriving program withing the Department of Medicine, committed to advancing excellence in patient care, research, and education. The Division includes more than a dozen faculty and Advanced Practice Providers who deliver comprehensive endocrine care across UTMB’s four hospitals – Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton Danbury.
Faculty provide the full spectrum of endocrine services, including diabetes management, pituitary and adrenal disorders, metabolic bone disease, and thyroid disease. The Division maintains a strong referral base and works collaboratively across specialties to deliver integrated, patient-centered care.
A major area of focus for the coming years is expanding UTMB’s thyroid program, including the development of a comprehensive thyroid service that combines clinical excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovative diagnostic approaches.
Position Summary
UTMB is seeking a full-time Thyroid Specialist at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of Endocrinology. This position emphasizes excellence in thyroid and general endocrine care, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to providing outstanding endocrine care, with opportunities to develop or expand expertise in thyroid disease management, thyroid ultrasound, and fine-needle aspiration, as well as in diabetes and other endocrine conditions.
The Division supports an ACGME-accredited Endocrinology Fellowship Program that trains four fellow across two years. Fellows benefit from diverse clinical experiences and mentorship from faculty recognized for their clinical expertise and dedication to teaching.
Essential Responsibilities
+ Provide comprehensive inpatient and/or outpatient endocrinology care, including management of thyroid disorders (such as thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, and autoimmune thyroid disease), diabetes, pituitary, adrenal, and metabolic conditions.
+ Develop and grow thyroid-specific clinical services, including ultrasound evaluation and biopsy procedures, as appropriate to training and experience.
+ Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and didactic settings.
+ Engage in departmental and divisional quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
+ Contribute to curriculum development, clinical training, and academic programming.
+ Participate in departmental and divisional meetings, faculty development activities, and other academic initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
+ MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
+ Board certified or board eligible in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.
+ Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Clinical experience in thyroid disease management, thyroid ultrasound, and/or fine-needle aspiration.
+ Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
+ Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, or quality improvement projects.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
