About the Division of Infectious Diseases
The Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is a dynamic and growing program within the Department of Medicine, dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education. The Division includes a diverse team of faculty and Advanced Practice Providers who deliver high-quality infectious disease care across UTMB’s four hospitals – Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton Danbury.
Faculty provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for a broad range of infectious conditions, including HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis, transplant-related infections, and complex antimicrobial management. The Division also offers consultative services for infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship, ensuring safe and effective care across the institution.
The Division is deeply engaged in advancing infectious disease research and education, with active participation in clinical trials, epidemiological studies, and global health initiatives. A key focus moving forward is expanding UTMB’s infectious disease programs through multidisciplinary collaboration, innovative clinical models, and continued excellence in teaching and mentorship.
Our ACGME-accredited Infectious Disease Fellowship Program trains six fellows across two years, offering a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum supported by dedicated faculty mentors and diverse clinical experiences. The Division also plays an active role in medical student and resident education, contributing meaningfully to UTMB’s academic and training missions.
Position Summary
UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of **Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice** within the Division of Infectious Disease. This position emphasizes high-quality clinical care, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to delivering exceptional infectious disease care, advancing clinical education, and participating in scholarly and quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities
+ Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient care for patients with infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, transplant-related infections, hospital-acquired infections, and emerging infectious diseases.
+ Participate in antimicrobial stewardship programs and infection prevention initiatives.
+ Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and didactic infectious disease settings.
+ Participate in departmental and divisional quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
+ Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including microbiology, pharmacy, infection control, and public health—for optimal patient outcomes.
+ Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and infectious disease-focused academic programs.
Minimum Qualifications
+ MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
+ Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease.
+ Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
+ Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development in infectious disease.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
