Who we are
The Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) (https://vetmed.tamu.edu/) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of veterinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major veterinary educational, medical, and research center. Today, we are one of the largest schools of veterinary medicine in the United States, training nearly 600 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students each year. What we want
The Research Assistant provides technical support for analytical chemistry projects in the Rusyn Lab. Focuses on sample preparation, extraction, and analysis of biological and chemical samples using advanced mass spectrometry techniques.

Note: This is a part-time, temporary role.
Qualifications
Required Education
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Toxicology, or a related field.
+ Hands-on experience with sample preparation and analytical chemistry methods.
+ Familiarity with mass spectrometry instrumentation (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, IMS-QTOF/MS).
+ Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
+ Proficiency with data analysis software (e.g., MassHunter, Analyst, or similar) and general lab software (Excel, Prism).
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.
+ Ability to identify, assess, and solve problems .
+ Ability to work cooperatively with others .
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding .
Responsibilities
+ Lab Support: Coordinates the daily activities in a laboratory, including staff support and quality control. Assists with longer-term lab organizational efforts. Performs routine and specialized sample extractions for chemical analysis. Assists with method development and optimization for targeted and untargeted workflows. Operates and maintains analytical instrumentation, including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, and IMS-QTOF/MS. Processes and analyzes acquired data using appropriate software tools. Maintains accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and instrument performance. Supports general laboratory operations, including solution preparation, equipment upkeep, and compliance with safety protocols.
+ Inventory Management: Maintains lab supplies and other research equipment. Schedules lab space for research sessions. Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
+ Educational Support: Prepares and sets up research sessions including drafting protocol, coordinating with IT support. Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research. Attends all laboratory meetings.
