Essential Job Duties:
The Temporary Grounds Tree Maintenance Worker performs arboricultural and general grounds maintenance duties such as pruning, trimming, and removing small limbs and debris on campus trees. Work supports campus safety, tree health, and aesthetics under the supervision of the team.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
• Temporary position with no guarantee of permanent hire.
• Training and PPE provided.
• Occasional early or weekend hours for storm response.
Required Qualifications:
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Perform pruning, trimming, and removal of small limbs or branches per ANSI A300 standards.
+ Operate and maintain chainsaws, pole saws, hand pruners, and other tree care tools.
+ Haul brush, branches, and wood debris to trucks or chippers and perform site cleanup.
+ Assist with stump grinding and related tasks as directed.
+ Maintain tools and PPE , ensuring safety and compliance.
+ Support other grounds or landscaping functions (mulching, planting, watering).
+ Maintain records of work, equipment logs, and material usage.
+ Work collaboratively with crew members and report to supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Coursework or certification in arboriculture, horticulture, or related field.
+ Experience operating wood chippers, stump grinders, or similar equipment.
+ Familiarity with tree health assessment and pest identification.
+ Prior experience in municipal or campus grounds maintenance.
Required license or certification:
Valid NC Driver’s License
