    Role Purpose

     

    In this intern role, you will assist the plant engineering team in their day-to-day activities on established and new production equipment. We look for you to support the plant engineering team and perform various activities that range from monitoring process performance, troubleshooting issues on the line, analyzing data sets, and presenting such learning. You will also assist the team in characterizing new equipment performance and documentation of the process.Work will include project and process activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    + You will work in a team-based environment and participate as an individual contributor.

    + Work under the direction of an engineer to:

    + Become familiar with manufacturing equipment and processes.

    + Develop experimental plans, assist with preparation, data collection and analysis.

    + Support sample collection, measurements/inspections and processing.

    + Support equipment debug and troubleshooting operations.

    Experiences/Education - Required

    + Pursuing a degregree in 4-year Engineering disciplines such as: Material Science, Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

    + Pending Junior or Senior Engineering major.

    + Minimum GPA of 3.0.

    + Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27-July 31, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later

    + Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.

    + Be willing to work in Durham, North Carolina

    + Problem solving and decision making.

    + Results oriented with a high commitment level.

    Experiences/Education - Desired

    + Process engineering skills (quantitative skills, ability to leverage mechanical understanding to “read” a process, coursework in engineering statistics or other statistical training).

    + Technical writing.

    + Ability to deliver technical presentations to operators, engineers and managers.

    + Effective communication & presentation skills (verbal and written).

    + Ability to work on diverse project team.

    + We are looking for an applicant with a strong level of technical curiosity and who can deliver creative solutions to technical challenges.

    •The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
