Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Lab Scientist I to join our dynamic team in Birmingham. This role involves performing routine and complex laboratory procedures in a hospital setting, ensuring accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
Responsibilities
+ Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
+ Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
+ Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
+ Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
+ Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
+ Report accurate and timely test results.
+ Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
+ Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
+ Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
+ Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or equivalent.
+ 2+ years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
+ Must have recent microbiology experience
+ Proficiency in medical technology, including microbiology testing, plate reading, and gram staining.
+ Experience with Cerner or Epic systems.
+ ASCP or AMT certification preferred or required depending on state requirements.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ Strong computer skills and familiarity with laboratory information systems.
+ High attention to detail and strong communication and organizational skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ State Medical Technologist license may be required depending on local regulations.
+ Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.
Work Environment
The position is based in a hospital laboratory setting located in the center of Birmingham, AL. The role is within the Micro Lab, working primarily the 1st shift from 9am to 5pm. The environment is currently short-staffed, and the role involves responsibilities such as reading plates, gram staining, and specimen setups. Training will be provided as necessary. The job offers a contract-to-hire opportunity with potential for long-term growth within a reputable company.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
