Overview:

The Data Center Engineer is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the data center’s physical and virtual infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, performance, and security of critical systems supporting enterprise operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with servers, networking, storage systems, and facility management within a mission-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Install, configure, and maintain servers, network equipment, and storage devices within the data center.

+ Monitor environmental controls, power usage, and physical security to ensure optimal data center performance.

+ Perform routine maintenance, system upgrades, and firmware updates to sustain uptime and reliability.

+ Troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, and performance issues; coordinate with vendors for hardware support.

+ Maintain accurate documentation of rack layouts, cable management, IP assignments, and asset inventory.

+ Participate in capacity planning and infrastructure scaling efforts to meet business growth.

+ Ensure compliance with data center standards and best practices for redundancy, backup, and disaster recovery.

+ Collaborate with Network, Systems, and Cloud Engineering teams on hybrid infrastructure and automation initiatives.

+ Support on-call rotations and respond to after-hours incidents as required.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Required:

+ Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

+ 3+ years of experience in data center operations, systems administration, or infrastructure engineering.

+ Strong understanding of networking (TCP/IP, routing/switching, VLANs) and server architecture.

+ Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar) and storage technologies (SAN/NAS).

+ Familiarity with cabling standards, PDUs, UPS systems, and environmental monitoring tools.

+ Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

+ Experience with automation tools (Ansible, PowerShell, Python, etc.).

+ Familiarity with monitoring platforms (SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, etc.).

+ Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid data center integration.

+ Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Cisco CCNA
