Description

New role based in far Northeast Houston with a privately held construction company.

The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting operations and will be responsible for managing the month-end close process, ensuring accurate Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounting, and maintaining compliance with bank debt reporting and covenant requirements.

The ideal candidate will bring deep accounting expertise, strong leadership skills, and a proactive approach to financial management in a construction environment.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

+ Oversee all aspects of WIP accounting, including job cost tracking, revenue recognition, and forecasting.

+ Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

+ Manage bank reporting requirements, including covenant compliance and debt schedules.

+ Collaborate with project managers and operations to ensure accurate job costing and forecasting.

+ Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

+ Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies.

+ Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.

+ Support budgeting and forecasting processes.

+ Implement and maintain accounting systems and software relevant to the construction industry.

Requirements

Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred but not required).

+ Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

+ Strong experience in construction accounting, including WIP and job cost accounting.

+ Proven experience managing month-end close and financial reporting processes.

+ Familiarity with bank debt reporting and covenant compliance.

+ Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, or similar construction ERP systems).

+ Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
