    About the Opportunity

     

    Our client, a Houston-based company in the global food distribution industry, is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This individual will support the accounting team with day-to-day operations, assist with month-end close, and help clean up existing account discrepancies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of GAAP, experience with reconciliations and journal entries, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.

    + Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable, and accounts receivable balances.

    + Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.

    + Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions.

    + Support preparation of financial statements and management reports.

    + Assist with audits (internal and external) by providing supporting documentation and schedules.

    + Analyze financial data and summarize financial status for management review.

    + Support budgeting and forecasting processes.

    + Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

    + 3–5 years of hands-on accounting experience.

    + Strong working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs) and Microsoft D365 (preferred).

    + Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

    + High attention to detail and accuracy.

    + Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
