Job Information
Open to the general public, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547 members, and any current Municipal Employees.
This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Public Transportation
HOURS OF WORK: Shifts vary; Monday to Sunday (Graveyard Shift Included)

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
+ Internal applicants currently working under the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547 Collective Bargaining Agreement
+ Local union dispatched applicants
+ External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement
Example of Duties
Responsible for the consistent and detailed cleaning of vehicle interiors on Public Transportation Department (PTD) buses, support and staff vehicles and department facilities. Provide consistent methods to clean a variety of finishes. Apply attention to detail to ensure that all vehicles receive a consistent level of cleaning. Identify methods and techniques to improve the efficiency while maintaining cleanliness and appearance of finishes. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance duties at the Public Transportation Department maintenance and warm storage facilities including operation and minor maintenance of the powered floor sweeper/scrubber and forklift. Clean, fuel, service and perform minor maintenance on Public Transportation Department staff and shop vehicles. Perform scheduled quarterly maintenance and minor repairs on in-floor vehicle lifts. Perform minor repairs on operation and maintenance buildings. Assist in proper disposal of used oil and related products. Assist outside vendors with the cleaning and removal of sludge from the maintenance and warm storage facility pits and the oil water separators. Inspect, clean and
perform maintenance inspections on safety devices (i.e., Fire Extinguishers, emergency eyewash station and showers).
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in the operation of various tools and equipment in the performance of minor building, equipment, and facility maintenance duties and performing unskilled heavy manual labor.

• A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's State of Alaska driver's license including a satisfactory Full DMV driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
