    CATON CONSTRUCTION GROUP, one of The Caton Companies, is growing! We are seeking a Superintendent (Utility) to join our project team. We have multiple projects throughout Virginia and North Carolina, with the initial project assignment in Cornelius, North Carolina.

    Summary

    The Superintendent will be responsible for the field planning and management process of the earthwork related aspects of construction projects including scheduling all earthwork, highway, utility, and mass excavation or other self-performed work and coordinating field crews as well as plan work schedules to control labor, equipment, material costs and subcontractors. The Superintendent will be responsible for the timely completion of all assigned operations while staying within budget.

    Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

    + Coordinates daily work activities, job site organization, reading of plans, etc.

    + Supervises and schedules work crews.

    + Organizes job site goals, timelines, and budgets.

    + Orders required supplies and materials.

    + Drive to various job site locations.

    + Lead by example with general laborer duties as needed, which may include shoveling, installing pipes, and other tasks as required.

    + Assists with heavy equipment operation, if trained, as needed at job site locations.

    + Maintaining time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing

    Knowledge

    • Understand project budgets and productions to manage personnel and equipment efficiently.

    • Ability to read and interpret CPM Schedules to plan work, equipment, and manpower needs for assigned projects.

    • Have a working knowledge of all required plans and specifications.

    • Knowledge of survey controls, grade checking.

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years related experience in field crew management of civil highway construction operations required;

    • Current OSHA (30 Hour) Certification, or willingness to obtain certification within 30 days of employment

    • Excellent organizational and planning, written and verbal communication, and supervisory skills are required.

    • Valid Driver License

     

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

     

    This is a full-time position. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday – 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., weekend work expected. Time provided for lunch, hours may vary. Work may be local or out of town, in which case overnight stays are required.
