The Electrical Controls Engineer II reports to the Engineering Manager and will lead automation improvement projects across the graphite electrode plant. Scope, execute, and deliver PLC/HMI/SCADA solutions that improve safety, quality, throughput, and reliability. This role is project-based with cross‑functional collaboration (Operations, Maintenance, Quality, HSE, IT).

    Responsibilities:

+ Own automation projects end-to-end—from charter and scope through commissioning, handover, and sustainment—meeting defined scope, schedule, budget, and risk controls.

+ Plan, design, and deliver PLC/HMI/SCADA solutions (Allen-Bradley/Siemens; Wonderware/Ignition/Concept) that improve safety, quality, throughput, and reliability.

+ Lead vendor/SI/OEM management: develop SOWs, select partners, and review/approve design packages, code, and documentation to site standards.

+ Create detailed commissioning/change plans, coordinate resources, and ensure LOTO and energization procedures are followed.

+ Establish and enforce controls standards: naming conventions, code libraries, backups/version control

+ Maintain technical documentation: keep P&IDs, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and network diagrams current; produce operating/maintenance instructions.

+ Integrate data systems: connect SCADA with MES; configure dashboards and alarms; define KPI reporting to monitor project outcomes.

+ Drive reliability and CI: partner with Maintenance/Ops to eliminate chronic losses using RCA (5-Whys, fishbone) and FMEA; verify sustained results.

+ Manage project governance: maintain charters, Gantt/schedules, budgets, change logs, risk registers, and stakeholder communications.

+ Train and hand over: create operator/technician training, job aids, and acceptance criteria; confirm competency and ownership at handover as part of MOC.

+ Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, machine safeguarding, and site EHS policies; embed safety interlocks and verifications in designs.

    Requirements:

+ BSc in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.

+ 5+ years experience in heavy manufacturing environment

+ Project‑focused orientation for automation improvement projects.

+ Experience with Allen‑Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs, including programming/code development or effective oversight of third‑party development (code reviews, testing, documentation).

+ Experience with SCADA systems: Wonderware (AVEVA), Concept, and/or Ignition.

+ Understanding of industrial communications and networks and common plant devices (VFDs, drives, instrumentation, safety relays).

+ Solid project control skills (scope, schedule, budget, risk, change control) and clear technical documentation.
