    As a **Sr. Staff Computational Physicist** , you will assist in mentoring our more junior staff while also engaging with other subject matter experts on developing algorithms, codes, and analytical tools to numerically solve complex mathematical models of physical phenomena related to superconductivity.

    Your responsibilities:

    + Incorporate input from the scientific computing team on code development, testing, and validation of simulation tools, as well as creation of model pipelines or workflows.

    + Communicate iteratively and regularly with the simulation team, physicists, engineers, and organizational leadership to determine development requirements and report on progress.

    + Develop physics-based mathematical models and/or improve upon existing models for the accurate description of superconductivity, electromagnetism, and quantum-mechanical systems.

    + Document methods and results in technical papers and presentations; document code for users and other developers.

    What you need to be successful in the role:

    The ideal candidate is proficient with state-of-the-art scientific computing methods, experience in joint experimental-theory collaborations, and experience with models of superconductivity. Strong candidates demonstrate scientific curiosity and are excited to participate in the evolution of new technologies and can effectively communicate their own knowledge to others.

    + Ability to collaborate in a small group setting as well as work independently.

    This position requires 100% work on site at our Linthicum, MD location and/or our Annapolis Junction, MD location.

    Basic Qualifications:

    + PhD in physics, materials science, electrical engineering or related STEM related field with 10 years of relevant technical experience

    + Expert knowledge of multiscale modeling approaches and/or multi-physics simulations.

    + Expert knowledge of superconducting physics, quantum mechanics, or condensed matter physics.

    + Expert knowledge of DFT simulations of materials and interfaces.

    + Experience with physics-based modeling and simulation.

    + This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.

    + Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance per business requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + PhD in physics, materials science, electrical engineering.

    + Experience modeling electron-phonon interactions.

    + Experience with Monte Carlo simulations of thin film growth and ordering.

    + Active U.S. Government security clearance.

     

    Primary Level Salary Range: $217,300.00 - $325,900.00

     

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

     

    Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
