Job Location: Hershey, PA *Summary: * Prepare microbiological media, conduct routine food and environmental sample analyses, and maintain quality control following ISO 17025 standards in a microbiology laboratory. Weekend work is required (~1x per month) * Responsibilities: * 1.Utilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to receive, track and input data for samples – including ingredients, finished products, and environmental samples - for microbiological analysis 2.Perform microbiological testing of samples following validated procedures - ensure accurate interpretation, documentation and communication of results in compliance of laboratory protocols 3.Prepare microbiological media and reagents required for in-house testing, adhering to procedures and quality specifications 4.Maintain laboratory inventory of both prepared and commercially sourced medias, ensuring availability and integrity through routine quality control checks 5.Dispose of tested samples following data entry, maintaining adherence to biosafety and regulatory guidelines 6.Participate in assigned training, learning projects and additional laboratory tasks involving collaboration to maintain the efficiency of an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory * Qualifications: * •Working knowledge and comfort in aseptic technique, microbiological test methods, media and autoclave use •Ability to follow standard operating procedures and methods •Apply working technical knowledge of food microbiology and related sciences, processes and/or instrumentation to identify and recommend control and/or monitoring techniques for food safety and quality •Ability to work independently and lift 15-25lbs •Proficiency in computer programs/software such as LIMS, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint •Knowledge of regulatory and quality system requirements – HACCP, Good Manufacturing Process (GMP), Good Laboratory Process (GLP), etc *Experience & Education: * •B.S in Food Science, Microbiology or related field required •Previous work experience in a microbiology laboratory is preferred The Hershey Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
