Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Customer Service Specialist to join our team. Under the general supervision of the Utilities Customer Service Supervisor (Call Center and/or Cashier), this position is responsible for delivering high-quality customer service via phone, email, in-person, and written correspondence. You will handle a variety of customer account activities, including billing, account maintenance, service requests, and payment processing.
This role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
Duties and Responsibilities
Call Center Functions:
+ Provide courteous and professional assistance to customers via phone, email, or in person.
+ Maintain accurate utility account records and respond to customer inquiries.
+ Review and process New Account Applications, Transfers, and Disconnection Requests.
+ Generate reports and process service work completed by Meter Services.
+ Schedule and close service orders, including disconnections for non-payment.
+ Apply policies and procedures in interactions with customers, developers, homeowners, engineers, architects, and other utilities.
+ Ensure clear and effective communication in all forms (verbal and written).
+ Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with customer information.
Cashier Functions:
+ Collect, post, and reconcile daily utility payments (cash, checks, debit/credit cards).
+ Issue receipts and balance cash drawers at the end of each business day.
+ Assist customers at the lobby counter, by phone, and via email.
+ Process incoming correspondence, applications, transfers, and past due collections.
+ Respond to Public Records Requests in accordance with established procedures.
+ Verify transaction accuracy through system controls and supervisor audits.
Education, Experience, Licensing
You need any combination of education and experience that is equal to:
+ High School diploma or GED required.
+ One (1) year of experience in a fast-paced, professional customer service environment.
Licensing:
+ Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is preferred.
Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
Supplemental Information

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, internet navigation, and industry-specific software.
+ Strong math skills and attention to detail.
+ Ability to interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures.
+ Capable of multi-tasking and working both independently and as part of a team.
+ Experience handling confidential information with integrity and discretion.

Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES:

Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
