Job Description
The Iowa Department of Administrative Services is seeking a Facilities Mechanical Maintenance Coordinator to join our Facilities Management team. This role is essential to ensuring our state buildings remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in multiple building and mechanical trades and have a hands-on approach to problem-solving, preventive maintenance, and project coordination.
What You’ll Do
+ Perform skilled maintenance work in mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, and electronic systems (24V and below).
+ Diagnose and repair issues involving building structures, equipment, and fixtures.
+ Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
+ Interpret blueprints, sketches, layouts, and specifications to complete repair and installation tasks accurately.
+ Operate and maintain hand and power tools safely and effectively.
+ Communicate directly with service providers, vendors, and contractors to schedule repairs, maintenance, and projects.
+ Monitor and manage work orders, ensuring timely communication with building occupants.
+ Maintain records of work performed, parts used, and systems maintained.
+ Ensure compliance with fire codes, safety standards, and building regulations.
+ Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. (Subject to call-in, on-call rotation, overtime, and occasional travel)
What We’re Looking For
+ Knowledge of building and mechanical trade practices, equipment, and safety procedures.
+ Experience with plumbing, HVAC, ventilation, boilers, and refrigeration systems.
+ Familiarity with computer-based building control systems and maintenance software.
+ Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
+ Basic proficiency in email, Microsoft Office, and facility management applications.
Additional Requirements
+ Successful completion of a criminal background check.
+ Valid Iowa Driver’s License (must be obtained and maintained).
+ Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, manlifts, and other material-handling or aerial equipment.
+ Willingness to work weekends, after hours, and respond to on-call rotations as needed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
+ Three years of full-time work experience in the building and trades industry.
+ Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Maintenance Repairer.

Additional Qualification Requirements
Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain current valid Driver’s License.
