    Position Summary

    The Dean of the School of Business and Justice Studies provides leadership to staff and faculty within the School, upholding Utica University’s tradition of excellence in teaching and learning with emphasis on individual student attention and high-impact practices.

    Major Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the School of Business and Justice Studies advocates for and directs the academic operation of the School. They will provide leadership to support and enhance the School’s commitment to academic excellence, scholarly values, and professional study rooted in a strong liberal education in order to inspire and educate each student.

     

    The Dean of the School of Business and Justice Studies is responsible for maintaining the quality of the academic environment of the School through the development and assessment of curriculum and the facilitation of teaching and research in an increasingly diverse community of faculty, students, and staff. The Dean advises the Provost on all matters pertaining to the School and works collaboratively with the other Deans to fulfill the academic mission of the institution. The Dean is expected to maintain a strong presence on the campus.

    Driving Responsibilities

    Supervises All personnel within the academic school.

     

    Education & Experience Qualifications

     

    To be considered for the position, candidates must have earned a terminal degree or equivalent professional experience in a discipline offered within the School.

    Furthermore, the successful candidate must:

    + hold a distinguished record of progressively advanced leadership experiences;

    + possess a demonstrated responsibility for a broad range of organizational areas, including:

    + assessment;

    + strategic planning;

    + Faculty development;

    + operational budgeting; and

    + personnel processes and procedures;

    + have outstanding listening, writing, and communication skills; and

    + possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

     

    Minimum Skills/Abilities

    Additional preferred experiences include:

    + the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all members of the University community – to listen, to engage, to persuade, and to foster individual and community-wide development;

    + the ability to serve as an advocate for the School to internal and external constituencies, including involvement in friend- and fund-raising activities and relationship-building;

    + an appreciation and demonstrated advocacy for the importance of a liberal education for students in professional, pre-professional, and STEM -focused programs;

    + experience with or understanding of shared governance

    + experience leading in a collectively bargained environment, honesty, integrity, common sense, good judgment, energy, and a sense of humor.
