WIN Waste Innovations is looking for a Plant Operator (Control Room) at the Baltimore Waste-to-Energy Facility, who is willing to guide plant operations to maintain production goals in a safe and reliable manner. In addition to operating the control room, the Plant Operator has direct interface with contractors, vendors and customers and acts as a steward of the community. This position requires problem solving skills, attention to detail, the ability to multi-task while maintaining clear communication between multiple work groups to uphold a positive and professional work environment. This is rotating shift position. The candidate will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays, as scheduled.
Responsibilities:
+ Controls the operating systems at a waste-to-energy facility for steam generation including, but not limited to condensate, feed water, boilers, turbine / generator, service water systems, fuel & ash handling, auxiliary systems, electrical distribution, fire systems, air pollution controls and various computer networks.
+ Continuous monitoring of operational and emissions data. Must have a working knowledge of distributive control system (DCS) and continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) and be able to read and interpret gauges, recorders, and alarm annunciators to quickly determine plant operating conditions. Must be able to promptly and effectively communicate plant conditions and take corrective actions as needed.
+ Maintain up-to-date logs and perform calculations to determine any indications of abnormal operating conditions. The Plant Operator is responsible for notifying the Shift Supervisor of any abnormal conditions and dispatching field operators to take necessary corrective actions.
+ Detect and respond to changing plant conditions for efficient operation with emphasis on maximizing plant safety, environmental compliance. The Plant Operator will monitor operating parameters and maintain direct communication with fuel (refuse) handling to ensure proper fuel mixture of boilers. They will make necessary changes to ensure proper combustion (burnout) of the refuse to meet production goals and stay within environmental and safety guidelines.
+ Create and issue lockout tagout (LOTO) procedures, confined space and hot work permits for all regulated work.
+ Direct communication with plant personnel, contractors and customers. The Plant Operator is essential for maintaining clear lines of communication between multiple work groups, and plant customers in a clear, concise and professional manner.
+ Coordinate, direct, and train other operators and plant personnel on operating principles of the plant systems, components and steam cycles.
+ As needed, can perform physical duties associated with maintaining boilers and various equipment within the plant.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
+ The Plant Operator may lead, guide and direct 2-5 employees to maintain safe and reliable plant operations.
+ As requested, "Fill in" as acting Shift Supervisor.
Education/Experience:
+ Two years working in a power plant environment as an Assistant Plant Operator (APO) or comparable position; or 5 years related experience or training in power plant environment
+ Mechanical skills sufficient to perform such tasks as replacement of shear pins, valve repacking, and equipment inspections
+ Skills, experience, and knowledge sufficient to acquire ASME QRO Provisional license. (ASME: American Society of Mechanical Engineers)
+ Math skills sufficient to complete required job functions
+ Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant
+ For all Massachusetts facility's, a 2nd Class Engineers license is required.

+ Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose operating at 125 psi line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire
+ Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lb portable units
+ Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways

Work in areas under adverse conditions that may require the donning and use of personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, the following with average fatigue:
+ Negative pressure respirator

+ Self-contained breathing apparatus (steel or composite bottle)
