The Department of English at Western Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 10, 2026, with expertise in Secondary English Education.
We seek a teacher-scholar committed to preparing the next generation of secondary English educators, advancing scholarship in the teaching of literature and composition, and building partnerships with local and regional schools. The successful candidate will contribute to our English for Secondary Teaching major by offering courses in composition, literature, and pedagogy, as well as to our graduate programs (M.A. and M.F.A.) through pedagogy-focused courses. They will also serve as a leader in departmental and university outreach efforts with area and regional high school English teachers.
Responsibilities include:
+ Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in secondary English education, literature pedagogy, and composition pedagogy as well as general education courses (4/3 semester load).
+ Advising and mentoring English for Secondary Teaching majors.
+ Contributing to the teaching of pedagogy in our M.A. and M.F.A. programs.
+ Developing and sustaining outreach partnerships with regional secondary schools and teachers.
+ Maintaining an active research and publication agenda in English education or related areas.
+ Engaging in service to the department, college, and profession.

The Department of English at Western Kentucky University is home to a vibrant community of scholars and teachers committed to literary studies, creative writing, professional writing, and English education. We offer a range of undergraduate majors and minors, as well as the M.A. in English and M.F.A. in Creative Writing.
Job Requirements:
+ Ph.D. in English by August 2026.
+ Demonstrated expertise in secondary English pedagogy.
+ Evidence of successful teaching at the postsecondary level.
+ Strong potential for scholarly productivity.
