Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic Technician
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Director of Facility Operations
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
JobSummary: To lead and supervise the daily performance of maintenance staff at St. James in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor. Assists in the maintenance and urgent, corrective and routine repairs in electrical, mechanical and HVAC equipment. Repairs and inspects medical equipment throughout the facility. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.
Job Results & Essential Function
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
+ Orders selected stock items such as electrical and equipment parts so as to maintain maximum efficiency levels at all times according to established procedures.
+ Assists in maintaining the corrective, emergency and maintenance of electrical distribution, mechanical, HVAC, power generation, plumbing and medical gas systems and building structures as required.
+ Diagnoses system malfunctions on mechanical and electrical equipment. Repairs or replaces defective parts as necessary.
+ Assists in maintaining records to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and NFPA regulations.
+ Repairs and inspects all medical equipment such as: nebulizers, t-pump heating pads, infusion pumps, feeding pumps, PT/OT equipment, oxygen tank regulators, flow meters and suction regulators, blood pressure cuffs, air mattresses, thermometers, blood pressure machines, electrical and manual wheelchairs.
+ Repairs, inspects and labels all patient beds, recliners, TV's and remotes, patient lifts and all resident electrical equipment.
+ Responsible for water treatment; all repairs, monthly sterilization and monthly water sampling. Performs all PM's and repairs on the Dialysis machines.
+ Performs all safety checks on electrical equipment throughout the facility.
+ Responsible for R- Cube system repairs and inspections.
+ Responsible for PM's, repairs and inspection of wall oxygen system.
+ Performs routine tasks as directed by the maintenance supervisor including security duties.
+ Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
+ Conducts monthly staff meetings.
+ Supports Security Department duties.
+ Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.

+ Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, and safety and infection control.
+ Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
Requirements
Position Qualifications
Education & Experience
+ High School diploma or GED required
+ Degree in Building Trades or AAS Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology
+ At least 10 years of related job experience
Licenses and/or Certifications
+ Valid NYS Driver's license
Language Ability
+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals.
+ Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. .
+ Ability to effectively communicate with employees, vendors, and visitors.
Math Ability
+ Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
+ Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, rates and ratios.
Reasoning Ability
+ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
+ Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and/or climbing ladders. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Working Conditions
Occasional operation near moving mechanical parts. Periodic exposure to weather conditions, high noise levels, and/or chemicals. Slight potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens while inside hospital.
Salary Description
